I said in another thread, but unless you're a mega franchise, and Trek isn't, then the days of 200m tentpoles being profitable for you are mostly over. Something new is gonna have to come along, so why not try getting ahead of the curve and trying it? It could be a glorious disaster or amazing. I like to imagine QT would want to have miniatures back and all that jazz too, haha.

Yeah spunking 200m to get 350m back is simply not on the cards. Spending 130m and using one of the most famous directors in the world? That could work.

SPOCK: Lieutenant, I would prefer to discuss this in private.
UHURA: You'd prefer not to discuss this at all, that's
    SPOCK: Our current circumstances...
KIRK: Are you, are you really gonna do this right now?
UHURA: What never seems to require your undivided focus. I'm sorry, Captain, just two seconds. Okay, is us. At that volcano, you didn't give a thought to us. What it would do to me if you died, Spock. You didn't feel anything. You didn't care. And I'm not the only one who's upset with you. The Captain is too.

Not thrilled with an R rating, but feel that is what QT is used to working under n didn't want any "constraints" of less than R. Other posters are correct that PG 13 guidelines are loose enough IMO with some current/recent ones probably being Rated R in 80s n 90s

I haven't seen a bunch of QT movies, but Pulp Fiction was/is a quality movie, IMO. His ability to have characters engage in great dialogue in a play like set/scene will translate well to ST while keeping production costs down due to less CGI n big explosions/pew pew.
IMO ST is best when confronting a preconceived notion/belief from an angle of 100% belief or certainty in conviction only to have that challenged or questioned an altered - Arena, Devil in The Dark, etc.
QT is a big ST fan, TOS specifically and IMO wouldn't purposely or grossly damage the brand. Feel he would get the characters correct, more quality character/plot driven vs. fast paced popcorn flick, again IMO

I'm very much intrigued n interested, but to each their own

If I’m looking forward to one thing it’s an uninterrupted back and forth between two characters that slowly builds up the tension. Tarantino has been very excellent in that regard and it’s a quality I find far more exciting and engaging than just more space ships blowing up each other. It’s something I think more tentpole films can use.

Sounds like cringe to me. Although, Paramount were talking about a "Justice League of Trek" as far back as 2002, and Hollywood loves going back to old ideas...

I'm am going for clarification here as the above doesn't quite make sense.

Now, the more sarcastic part of me is kicking in and is meant as a joke, especially given the topic:

it make sense since Tarantino is bigger than chris pine when it comes to movies.

chris pine should be the one crawling back to star trek if tarantino wants to use this cast.

or they can just recast Pine in the role.

I see tarantino's trek doing deadpool box office numbers

Very optimistic numbers indeed. If it even gets made I'll be genuinely amazed.

But your original post didn't flow well so your point was completely lost for me.

Was there no guarantee that he would actually direct the film as opposed to say just producing?

Not that it would make any difference since the Trek film franchise seems to be in the freezer now.

Pretty sure the earliest reports were that he'd produce not direct. But I've suspected this was all empty hype to keep Paramount's stock prices healthy from day one. Hopefully I'm wrong. We shall see.
