And when "regular" people imitate Shatner, they're pretty much just imitating Pollack.

Chekov is Robin Williams, Spock is Christopher Lloyd as Reverend Jim from Taxi, Bones is Jack Nicholson, and Scotty is Dudley Moore as Arthur Bach from the movie Arthur. The skater at the end is a callback to an earlier bit from his act about the Olympic skater Brian Boitano. I've also seen versions of this bit where he does Peter Falk as McCoy.

It’s an amusing bit but his least convincing mimicry is that of Shatner. His Reverend Jim and Arthur Bach are spot on, though.

Leslie Nielsen was doing the rounds a lot at the time of TOS in the sixties and he was the type of actor that could play a Starship commander who had disobeyed the rules or had turned evil very easily so I wonder why he never took the credits? That was until everyone found out that he could play comedy as he was a very funny guy in real life and then that's all he was ever offered was comedy!!!

I don’t know how they do it in the UK, JB, but here it’s all about that Nielsen ratings game. The bean counters at the television networks rely on this scam to decide whether a series lives or dies.

 

Kind of like that television executive or critic who said TOS was “too cerebral”.

 

Yes I know about the Nielsen ratings and how silly it all is! Some shows are rubbish yet still get a second season while good ones get the chop!
