Agreed; maybe not a full multi-season show, but a mini-series akin to what they're doing with Star Trek: Picard certainly would've been fun. Great flyby! That really looks like a studio shot.
Neither were the first few seasons of TNG, DS9 or Enterprise; all improved over time. Using a hastily slapped together, semi-canon Voyager outing (since it really doesn't match up with TUC well at all!) probably isn't the best basis for an estimation of quality.
Plus it was colored by Tuvok's warped memories of the incident from the parasite/infection or whatever.
Not just colored - outright warped (no pun intended!). Valtane(sp?) wasn't dead at the end of TUC and the navigator sat next to Boris wasn't wearing a white departmental undershirt, but instead was originally in the correct blue-gray color (was it even the same actor as in TUC?). So IMO Flashback isn't really viable as a canon outing but remains a fun celebratory episode.
Agreed. Of course, if TPTB ever go back to make a live-action series from this era, I fear it will look far too advanced (à la DISCO) and not adhere to the style we're accustomed to.
Wouldn't we get three boring seasons of Sulu drinking tea and the crew studying gaseous anomalies...yawn. (Why does this remind me of TNG?) Stardate 9521.6, Captain's log, U.S.S. Excelsior. Hikaru Sulu commanding. After three years I've concluded my first assignment as master of this vessel, cataloguing gaseous planetary anomalies in the Beta Quadrant. We're heading home under full impulse power. I am pleased to report that ship and crew have functioned well.
Love it! But, a bit of improvement would be some blinky lights, and correct the running lights, the light on the pennat on the eng hull seems off
