Star Trek 55

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

This is the Romeulan Eagle. And no, that's not a typo.

Gotta get on the road, so will post additional comments later.

I love how the weapons emitters approximate the talons of a bird!

Your various "retro" themes, like your Toho styled Enterprise, are pure gold! They really give a sense of "what could have been"!

Cool! The original version of this was less "bird" like. No "beak", talon weapons or wing cutouts. I tried to stay fairly true to the Romulan ship, albeit with a more retro-y body. But I couldn't figure out how to make a front plasma style emitter work with the design. While I was trying to figure that out, the talon weapons just popped into my head as something that would be cool, then on a lark I added the "beak", (which houses the new experimental weapon) and figured I might as well go whole hog and added the cutouts on the wings. I wasn't sure if I was going a little too far, but everyone seems to like it so I figured I did the right thing. :D

Thanks! I really appreciate the compliment! Yeah, I loved doing the Toho version, that pic came out far better than even I expected! Based on past comments, we're roughly the same age, and watched a lot of the same old classic sci-fi in the 70's (or thereabouts) and seem to be on the same wavelength regarding them, I usually feel like if I've won you over, then I've probably captured the specific feel and level of authenticity I was going for. :techman:

Love the retro 50 Trek ships :) cant wait to see the Klingon or Klinkkon? one :)

Thanks! Oddly enough, I thought the Klingon (Klingonian ) ship would be easy peasy to do since I had another retro design that closely resembled it. Nope. So I figured this would be easier.

As for the name "Romeulan"......there's a reason for that. In the original Trek, the Romulans are essentially space Romans. In my UESPA series, I was going to have them be space Romans with that planet in "Bread and Circuses" as one of their outposts. But had to scrap that. Since 1950's space shows didn't really do alien make up, I figured I'd finally get that chance to have space Romans....yes, they wear Roman like outfits. Google Prince Baron from the first Flash Gordon serial to see what I visualize as the commander of the Eagle.

I get a real "Forbidden Planet" vibe off these. Any other views on that Romulan ship?

Thanks E-DUB! As for other views....how's this?

I thought Prince Baron wore the Robin Hood get-up? Wasn't it Vultan, prince of the Hawkmen?

There were three Flash Gordon serials, in the first two, he was played by the same actor and recast in the third. The third serial was a visual reboot (as far as costumes were concerned) and that's when he had the Robin Hood look. In the first serial Barin looked like this:

See, I imagined them in latex head covers that leave thier faces exposed, kinda like toho's xilians from invasion of astro-monster.

To make it a truly authentically Toho inspired takusatsu styled shot, we need plumes of smoke "rising" behind those flames!

I wished I could add smoke in in a believable way. Along with a rocket flame that slightly bends upwards at the end.

Please understand I was just trying to be funny. It looks beautiful as is! Looking at that shot, I immediately think of the score Ifukube composed for the nautical scenes in "Gojira". (Being at the office, I can't risk browsing through YouTube to find the appropriate clip, but I think you know the one.)
