In retrospect it probably would have been better post-TLS for Fox to have either done a complete reboot of the X-men movie universe, or carry on the story without most/all of the original cast. Ironically they ended up doing both to a degree: DoFP became a reboot, while the success of Deadpool at least hints at what could have happened with a clean slate contemporary X-men series. Instead they just muddled on.

As much as I liked FC, it was going backwards not forwards, and we have lots of evidence of the 21st century generally not being kind to prequels. In addition, we got more of the same in terms of Prof X vs. Magneto and Wolverine.

I have no idea what to expect of an MCU X-men franchise, which is a good thing; I just hope any movies don't feel like MCU Film #30. IMO they need to change things up for all post-Endgame films or it's going to become real stale.

The XMCU is the first superhero franchise of the past 20 years that maintained a single continuity throughout each and every installment, which is why it made history as the longest-running continuous superhero film franchise in history.

The author of that article kept things on the rails until he "conveniently" ignored the fact that The Last Stand explains exactly how and why Xavier is alive for the events of the coda of The Wolverine and the 2023 events of Days of Future Past AND decided to ignore all of the facts grouping both Dark Phoenix and Logan into his "Timeline B"; at that point, though, things went completely off-track and turned what was heretofore a reasonable summation of things into a joke rant.

Why do people continue to act as if the after-credit scene of The Last Stand isn't a thing? Does their knowledge of the film come solely from cable TV? This posturing was annoying enough in 2014, five years later there's really no excuse for it.

Which is why Mags' reveal/proclamation at the end of DoFP should have sent the story sideways, rewriting the arc of the Cold War and world history itself as FC had threatened to do. But no, we just shambled along, and winded up with frickin' Reagan again for some reason. Zzzzz...

It's think it's a low point in the film, making the killing of Xavier feel a lot more meaningless for no reason other than pure backtracking so he can appear in later films, and it's also so brief, although not *exactly* unclear (still kind of unclear), and not really believable.

It's fairly consistent with the comics where he had a disembodied evil twin and where his mind occupied a cloned body after the original was infected by the brood, although in that case, his inability to walk was psychosomatic (for a while).

The worst offence was Angel. I was so angry that the p#ssed away his most iconic storyline and for what? He has almost no lines and zero emotional depth. They could have used Banshee and rectified the error of seemingly killing him off camera to much greater effect. I really think the movie would have been improved without Magneto and Mystique, and with Angel being the only recognisable character among the Horsemen.

It's supposed to be Xavier's twin brother who was born brain dead thanks to Xavier's powers. Granted you'd only know this from listening to the audio commentary with Brett Ratner, Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg. The latter two were really excited on it that they found a comic book accurate out if anyone wanted to use Xavier again.

The idea in Days of Future Past (and the post-credit scene from The Wolverine where Logan goes, "How is this possible!?") is that nuXavier is wheelchair bound due to his brother's leg muscles atrophying from being bedridden for several decades.

As for why he's bald again when his brother's head was hairy in that Last Stand scene? Maybe he just likes the look. Don't judge. Bald is beautiful.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd be happy if Disney forget about tge X-men prequels and just build forward from X3. We could do worse than have Storm, Wolverine, Iceman, Colossus, Shadowcat, Angel, and Rogue as the core team.

Cyclops and Jean are probably still alive in some form or other and all the other X-men are up for grabs.

I am disappointed that Fox never got in a fourth OG X-Men movie between Days of Future Past and Logan. Not that those two movies weren't amazing, but one final adventure with the complete original cast in the new timeline would have been awesome.

I don't think there's any doubt about that. The only character that will carry over is Deadpool, who knows he's in a movie anyway.

I'm sure they will; I just don't want them to. We don't need another origin movie and mutants don't require one anyway. Rogue needs work to realise the comic version but permanently absorbing a second personality would cover that. They could hit the ground running and spare us retreading old ground. It's not like there aren't a ton of other antagonists to play with. I'm not even suggesting they shouldn't do their own thing (they are possibly contractually obliged to do so) but to just avoid expressly contradicting the first trilogy. If they start with Secret Wars they could use Magneto I suppose.

I can see four options - there are probably a bunch more :

1. Collapsing multiversal realities Time Runs Out style, bringing the mutants to ours.
2. Mutants emerging naturally over the next few years, shown in subplots of the next phase movies.
3. Mutants have always been here but we're hidden and are now revealed.
4. Mutants started to flourish back in the 1960's but... This would somehow tie into my half formed fantasy MCU movie where the FF origin is in the 1960's, the movie features Peggy and Steve, Hank Pym and Janet, Howard Stark etc. and ends with a time jump of some sort for the FF and the suppression of mutants.

Disney has already said that they're going to continue the Deadpool franchise as it currently exists.

They've also said that Feige and Marvel Studios are going to reboot the X-Men franchise completely.

I think they've already introduced a great way to introduce mutants in Endgame with that energy wave that Rocket detected after Thanos snapped his fingers and then twice more with Banner's and Stark's snaps. The energies of the stones have given people powers before, who knows how many x genes the energy wave activated? Before that, mutants were extremely rare. Maybe a hundred ninety-eight in the entire world, to use a number from the comics.
