Troi "I sense a deception"Deanna's presence on the bridge makes sense because of her empathic abilities. Highly useful skill for a starship captain to have at his disposal during negotiations/conflicts etc. Same could be said for a telepath. As a captain, who wouldn't want to have that resource available?
There would be little reason for a ship's counselor with no such abilities to have a permanent bridge chair.
One of my favorite Deanna moments on the bridge is when Geordi is on the pakled ship. She warns Riker, that something is not right. Riker ignores her and then she doesn't mention anything more about it. Of course, that would have ended the episode right there.
Afraid not. In Future Imperfect, Picard was an Admiral, not an Ambassador. And Deanna was his aide, not his advisor.
Romulans do have a telepathic slave race, the Remans. Just the Romulans prefer to use them as cannon fodder.
Fine, he's an Admiral, conducting diplomatic negotiations with a Romulan ambassador. In this scenario, Picard has taken Troi with him to stay at his side, doing what she always has, advising him. She's not some jr. officer "aide," nor does any of this make any difference.
Most aides to Admirals are actually high ranking officers. Admiral Nechayev's aide was a Commander, as was Commander Benteen, Admiral Leyton's aide. Sisko was a Captain when he worked as Admiral Ross's aide at the start of season 6. While Deanna might have given advice to Admiral Picard, her official job was his aide, not an advisor.
Please quote the relevant dialogue where she is called an "aide," then you can explain the difference, how it applies to Troi, and maybe at end whether you have a point or not.
Memory Alpha says she's an aide in Future Imperfect, so that's good enough for me.
