i'm sure that's what he means, but kurtzman's quote is literally:
as if they were really all that constrained by canon to begin with...

I actually think an appearance by Daniels would be kinda cool. He could be the one to break it to the crew that they can't use any time-travel ideas to return to the 23rd century because their removal from that century is an established event that would screw everything up if they return.

i know that in the episode they said that Flint was losing his immortality but what if he didn't? What if he's still around?

Somehow I think "no longer being constrained by canon" just means there's nothing stopping them from doing a fall of the Federation storyline now.
    Novels already did it.

Personally, I think that They are going to put themselves so far out of the Trek experience that it's not going to end up being a very popular "TREK" show.
It may end up being good, but I think folks are going to end up saying it's not really Star Trek, even more so than with DISCOVERY. (and I like that show)
I'll check it out, but being a TOS-birther, I'm not really looking forward to it.
    <shrug>

Yeah, it's at the point now that with all the TREK novels out there, it's going to be very difficult to NOT have something similar in the TV shows.

My ideal version of that scene would be two Danielses, one of whom would argue the above, and another one appearing shortly thereafter who desperately tries to convince them to go back to the 23rd century because the "official" timeline has them being back in the past and it's their removal from that timeframe that would alter history. Just to confuse the crew and the viewers so that no one has an idea who's actually right.

Does one of the Daniels' have a goatee?

He could have one... my mental image was more like the two identical Kirks from Whom Gods Destroy or the two Odos (Odoes?) from The Adversary. Only without the obvious 'spot the impostor' plot.

I just keep picturing Picard shooting his counterpart. Talk about temporal headaches.

Add two O'Briens simultaneously saying "I hate temporal mechanics" and it'll be perfect.

Whoopi Goldberg has made her interest in being in either Discovery or Picard well known.
I could see them running into Guinan in the far future. Guinan could even be a bridge between STP and DSC

I’d love to see her on Picard. Their friendship was one of my favorite parts of TNG. She was one of the few people he could relax and open up to.

Just rewatched "Children of Time" from DS9. Odo did live on that planet for centuries even without being connected in any way to the Great Link, and he was doing just fine. So maybe he'll be around. The same was true for the Dax symbiant in that episode. Alive and doing well.

I really can't see them bringing in any familiar characters. This is Discovery's chance to break out, as it were, and tying it to "hey! Remember this person from TNG" or whatever might be seen as a gimmick, and nothing more.

Though I can see them looking up what happened to the families and friends. I think it would be interesting to see Burnham's reaction to finding out Spock died twice.

Data. There was a short story published once (Strange New Worlds or New Voyages) set in the distant future, where the only living beings on Earth were the ageless Data and Lore.
