With the Discovery headed over 900 years into the future, much of it will probably seem unfamiliar. But where the plotline wills it, there's a way to put familiar faces into the mix. I would be fine if none of these folks were brought in, but here are a few possibilities anyway:
    - Q (of course)
    - Voyager EMH
    - Dax
    - some incarnation of Data
    - the Sisko
    - evil Archer
    - Anybody know the lifespans of El-Aurians and changelings? (Guinan, Odo)
    - additional means: Khan-style cryo-stasis, or getting stuck in transporter buffers, or doing a slingshot around the sun, etc.

What are some characters you think could make an appearance (whether or not they should)?

given that they made it a point to say the jump forward frees the show from canon, i’m gonna go with none.

None, except for possibly the Talosians, who might still be around.

I also doubt we'd see or hear about anyone or anything from PIC. DSC S3 wouldn't want to step on the toes of anything its sister series is doing.

I'm going to cheat a little and say I think we'll see Tenavik (who can exist in any time with time crystals), Gabrielle Burnham, Craft, and Zora again. I think DSC S2 and "Calypso" were building characters we'd see when Discovery got to the other side, time-wise. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, they were building a bridge to the 33rd Century.

Tough to say, but here's my best guess:

    Chief Engineer Leland T. Lynch
    Neelix
    Janice Lester
    Ru'afo
    Mirror Kira
    Colonel West
    Cyrano Jones
    Cmdr. Calvin "Hutch" Hutchinson
    Galactic High Comissioner Ferris
    Shinzon's Viceroy
    Isabella
    Kai Opaca

I have no problem with seeing these characters again, as they are unique to the Discovery story. But, for the love of God, I hope they leave the other series alone and forge their own path.

Or more accurately, so they wouldn't be conflicting with canon anymore. I highly doubt they're abandoning stuff from the other shows. Now that they're in the 32nd century, it's open season on the Trek Canon. Borg, Dominion, Q, you name it, you'll see it in season 3 Disco. They'll probably hold back from using main characters from TNG, so they don't intrude on Picard's turf, but otherwise the floodgates are open, and the Kraken has been released. Fanwank, times infinity.

I actually don't think this will happen, only because of just how far in the future it will be. The V'Draysh, who Alcor IV is fighting, are probably the "bad guys" if we're supposed to sympathise with Craft. The V'Draysh probably see the Federation as this ancient thing. So I think they'd refer to characters in Previous Trek the way we'd refer to someone like Marco Polo.

I think, or at least hope, Michelle Paradise will make this time period as foriegn as possible. I'm okay with TOS stuff in DSC's first two seasons because of the timeframe. I'll be okay with TNG/DS9/VOY stuff in PIC, again, because of the timeframe. In DSC S3, that's where I shift gears. Except for "Calypso", we've never been this far out. We're even beyond Braxton and Daniels. IMO, it has to be unrecognizable. Even if we see the same races, things should've changed so much they might as well be different races. The Discovery crew should be total fishes out of water, and we as the audience should be too.

I'd even say DSC S3 could be Star Trek's version of Alice in Wonderland. It has the potential to be, at least. I think it would be great if Burnham actually got to live out the story that used to be read to her.

Flint the Immortal, where it turns out he didn't live a regular lifespan after all.

Tiberius James Kirk from the Mirror Universe, where it turns out the Tantalus Field teleported you to the far future of the Prime universe rather than kills you (a reverse of this was pitched for Shatner's aborted ENT appearance)

    I especially love @NewHeavensNewEarth's
    idea of a Dax incarnation.

That's what it should be, but considering how much the show depended on nostalgia and fanwank in the first two seasons, I'll be very surprised if they make a clean break from it in the third.

By then though, the Borg will have adopted another form of galactic assimilation by buying WalMart Inc.

I didn't say "clean break", I said I think so much will have changed that the races we knew before might as well be totally different. They wouldn't neccesarily act like or think like they did before, but we'd still see them.

I'm guessing in the dark, but if Terralysium is deep in the Beta Quadrant, a lot of DSC S3 might -- might -- take place there. The other series didn't touch the Beta Quadrant much. It was Alpha, Delta, and Gamma.

(Before someone points it out: Yes I know Earth sits on the border between the Alpha and Beta Quadrants in the maps, but in-show everything related to the Major Powers has always been referred to as being in the Alpha Quadrant, which I think is a lot better than egotistically putting Earth in the center of two quadrants.)

The mother Horta could still be alive. Hortas have a really long lifespan.

Oddly enough, it seems like every season some of the main fan theories revolve around the Iconians.

In ENT, there was no need whatsoever to have TNG characters involved, and yet there they were. The urge for Trek to make those connections seems irresistible, even though I'm not pushing for it personally.

I do hope there isn’t some sort of anemic “restore the Federation” arc same as ‘Andromeda’.
Been there...and once was more than enough.:barf2:
