What eventually happens to Nhan?

Meanwhile, Pike and Spock have come in and gotten more development than all the male and female peripheral characters combined, so spare us the "woe is me" downtrodden male routine. The show isn't exactly great on developing its secondary characters.

Pike and Spock are main characters. I'm talking about recurring bridge officers. Airiam, Detmer, Owo, Nhan have all gotten way, way more screen time and development than the two male bridge officers Rhys and Bryce. We know literally nothing about them. So basically your entire point is rendered useless, especially the "woe is me" line, flip the gender then maybe it'd make sense.

Just ignore him, guys. He's been bringing this up in multiple threads and clearly has an axe to grind. I gave him the benefit of the doubt yesterday and responded to him too, but it's obvious now that he's just out to derail multiple threads with his nonsense.

I've been a poster here for twenty years. If I was just some troll out to derail threads do you really think I would have waited this long to do it? I'm talking about my main issue with the show, the casting and characterisation. Nhan is a symptom of everything that's wrong with the series in that regard.

Everything in this is absolutely wrong. Pike has been considered one of the highlights of this series and then there is a demand for more men?

I'm a male, and I don't need more men on the Star Trek bridge. Let's get over ourselves and this gender crap.

I'd love to get over this gender crap, when the series actually provides a balance to the characters on the show. Ever since their pathetic "future is female" convention panel a year or two ago they've given us mansplaining fools like Connoly and swung the pendulum so far the other way towards female characters they're in another galaxy.

Yeah, it's not like we didn't have Pike, Lorca, Spock, Stamets, or Saru as male characters.

Yes, get over it. Hollywood productions don't get to dictate how I feel. If people don't like it then don't watch it! We've had 50 years of male characters and leads and dominating the "balance" (whatever that means when 50% of the human population is female).

IDIC, my friend. IDIC.

Yeah, it's not like we didn't have Pike, Lorca, Spock, Stamets, or Saru as male characters.

Hard to think of many others isn't it.

I'm all for IDIC, I'm all for diversity. What people fail to realise is that the show is just as sexist as the previous series were, just in the opposite direction this time. Why not 50:50 male or female, or close to it? And why the need to openly mock male characters like Connoly or Leland or make sexist remarks about "tiny male brains"?

We don't need 50:50 if we have 5 other shows that were not. The balance eventually will find its way.

Also, Star Trek has mocked many ideas openly many times before, as well as had arrogant male characters before. Connoly is no more (and no less) offensive than past characters.

It's a non-issue.

How many others does it take, to qualify as "many"?

There are also: Ash Tyler, Sarek, Voq, Culbert... from memory. I am sure there are many others whose names are eluding me now. That comes to a total of TEN recurring male characters.

How many recurring male characters can you list for TOS?

Well, there are many ways to analyze the gender ratio on any show and there isn't really a definitive way to do it. You can go by just pure number of actors of a gender, weight it by importance or moral stances. But for the purposes of this post I've decided to go with the vanilla "Let's count how many male and female named Starfleet members are seen in season 2"

First, there are a few outliers: Tyler. I decided to count him as a Starfleet character since he wears a uniform virtually all of the time, even though he's technically a Klingon imposter working for Section 31. Then there are Gant and May, the former only appeared as a reanimated corps, the latter is a spore-induced hallucination of someone who's dead. I counted neither. I decided to count Nillson, even though she's played by Airiams actress. So, based on the memory alpha article about season 2 performers, here's my list of named Starfleet characters:
Male:
Connolly
Culber
Kroad
Spock
Pike
Saru
Rhys
Tyler
Stamets
Bryce
Vela
Linus
Grek
Haynes
Kim
Nicola

Female:
Nhan
Burnham
Una
Cornwell
Airiam
Detmer
Pollard
Colt
Nillson
Patar
Reno
Owosekun
Amin
Mann

So, if you count these, out of 30 named Starfleet characters we have 16 male and 14 female characters. That's pretty close to a 50:50 ratio. Now, as I said above, this is no definitive way to analyze this topic, just a convenient and easy one.

On Memory Alpha they say that Nahn is presumed dead along with the rest of the Discovery crew, IOW, they don't know.

From the point of view of everyone else in the 23rd century, yeah. But on the ship, there's nothing to suggest that she's died.

As I said, Nhan's absence from the final confrontation with Leland may be just because Georgiou wanted to face him alone.

The last time we see her she's laying on the floor. It's hard to tell if she's dead or just passed out.

I guess we'll find out if/when TPTB allow Ancheril to tweet whatever details are considered proper...?

Nhan leaves Starfleet to become the spokesperson for Yum Yum...delicious crackers made from quadrotriticale.
Arne Darvin only wanted to poison the Quadrotriticale to make Yum Yum's share prices fall down so that Glorious Kahless Krackers InKorporated would be able to facilitate a hostile takeover and monopolize the market.

I don't give a damn how long you've been posting on this board. In this forum you've been a one-note disruptive influence peddling the same inane and baseless grievance about the plight of oppressed men and gender imbalances on the show. It's tiresome, it's inaccurate, it derails threads, and you've made the same damn point already way too many times and been told to stop. Move on to a different subject and stop being a broken record.

I've been here 20 years too. I see nothing wrong with DSC having more representation of women. Jinn laid out how the gender composition isn't lop-sided like some make it out to be.
