Unpopular Trek opinions game

Unpopular opinion: Star Trek: The Motion Picture is the best Star Trek movie.

The Ferengi never had slavery or any major wars
That isn't current humanity. Females are second class citizens within Ferengi culture.

Humanity may not be perfect but I certainly think we are working towards a better place. But, hey, a fictional culture sounds good than have at it.

Women are still second class citizens within some cultures including, to a degree, the US. Where white men make decisions for them.

Humanity is always improving. Current poverty has been reduced to lowest in history, including extreme poverty down to 10%, down from 44% in 1981. Literacy has increased, leading to greater sharing of knowledge. Medical knowledge has improved, taking child mortality down to 4.3%, down from nearly 40% at the early 19th century. Population growth, long considered a problem, has slowed dramatically and education has improved.

Look over the course of human history and we have made progress and changes that go unacknowledged in larger society. Sorry, but I'm not going to trade 50% of the population's ability to be clothed, working and participating in economy for some fictional race.

No one asked you too. Just pointing out that we have a long way to go, and aren't as far removed from something like the Ferengi as we like to tell ourselves.

No, we are not far removed from it. Humanity is always capable of great evil and savagery. That's why I believe characters like Georgiou are so important. But we are growing in a far more positive direction than anyone would like to believe.

I have little regard for the Ferengi as a species, and to say that we are as bad as they are is not accurate, to my mind, even if humanity still has a ways to go. We are still improving and have a great capacity to learn and grow and develop.

You know, optimism. Like Star Trek.

Unpopular opinion: The reason DS9 didn't catch on like TNG was primarily because the general public didn't connect with some of the cast like they did with the TNG characters. DS9 had a good cast overall but it was not as strong as TNG's cast. Dax was a poorly conceived character. Kira and Bashir should have been recast.

They never should have made Kirk captain of the Enterprise at the end of Trek 2009. Possibly messed up the entire series.
end of the movie, pin a medal on his chest, slap him on the back and say "you have a promising career ahead of you cadet kirk."

cut to credits.

to be honest they weren't the most likeable group of people, meaning the characters not the actors. the parts were well played, but how many of them would you personally want to have spent time with?

The trouble with Dax.. I know there have been multiple threads about it.

Why do you do with a problem like Jadzia? I think the problem was that they were constantly reminding you how much better she used to be, or at least how all the adventures she went on and somtimes shared with the Sisko. When you build up someone's past life too much it doesn't hold out much for them now. They were acting like her better days were behind her and the audience was supposed to treat her as "old man" Dax. The characterization during her relationship with Worf did not help her break out of the mold. Now she just sublimated herself into Worf's false sense of hyper-Klingonism.

Ezri has no problems. She is absolutely the pinnacle of awesomeness. She just showed up too late.
