The ambiguous sunset/sunrise is a nice touch with that tagline.

Unless it does, but it has to be screen canonized, first. See also: Uhura's and Sulu's first name, and other examples that aren't coming immediately to mind but I know I remember being a thing.13. Does COUNTDOWN count? No

QUESTIONS
My guess is he heard that Janeway just got another big promotion.Loved it but does make you wonder what would cause Picard to leave starfleet and go back to his vineyard.
I would think, it wouldn't be any of the main characters from TNG,but it made be someone we haven't seen or meet.As excited as I am for this show...I am going to be incredibly disappointed if the reason Picard left Starfleet is because the TNG characters were unceremoniously killed off-screen sometime prior to the series.
I mean, I get that this show isn't supposed to be TNG 2.0, nor do I think it should be. But TNG was the show that first got me (and a lot of other people) into Trek back in the '80s and '90s, I can't believe they would think the fans who are tuning in to see Picard again after all these years, would also be happy to learn that these other characters that we were invested in for so long are just dead now.
Where's the "love" button for this comment? My guess is he heard that Janeway just got another big promotion.

I'm the opposite but I do share this sentiment. I love ST09, ID and enjoyed BEY. I really enjoy DSC but this show just fails to inspire thus far.
Honestly, the only thing that draws me in is the Romulan angle.
Ok, how about this. He retired in 2384, planted some grapes, got some 2386 vintage wine bottles, got called back to service to lead an armada (really? no one else could do it?) then retired again? Confusing...
God, hate that stupid nova and everything to do with it. Bleeh.
So assuming 86 stands for 2386, he must have already been retired couple years before then. So, either he retired in 2384 unrelated to Hobus, or Hobus just got retconned into happening 3 years earlier than in ST09. If it's the latter, it's not the worst thing to happen in Trek.
