I’m not arguing with you because it’s useless.

I'm not arguing. I'm stating an opinion that just because something was written in a book doesn't automatically make it true, especially when there's no evidence.

...Much as with the fun story of TPTB wanting the Akira to be used as Archer's ship unaltered. Might be there's something to it. Might be this something is that they wanted a ship looking like the Akira, for all the right reasons, and tasked the artists to design one, and they thought it fun to point out the multi-century gap that would complicate the in-universe connection, and then JFK sent an email in support. Might be there was a memo saying "Use this specific CGI pattern, and if you change anything besides the bit of lettering that says USS Thunderchild, you're fired".

Finding "evidence" is bound to be difficult there, because interviewing the people involved won't help. Why would anybody wish to tell the truth and cast him- or herself in what might count as bad light?

That particular thing was mentioned by Doug Drexler on his now-defunct blog. I personally have no reason not to believe him, but sure, without evidence there’s no real proof that what he said was true, other than he had no real reason to lie about it.

Just like how Braga mentioned years after the fact that Future Guy was Archer, when during the production of ENT he and Berman stated that they really had no idea who FG was because the TCW was something they came up with at the last minute to appease UPN, and never seriously thought it through. So what’s the truth? To me, an idea not thought through sounds more likely than an idea that was just ridiculously preposterous and retconny.

It would appear logical to assume simple statements to be lies, since the world is complex. Every story is a lie, and the good ones take the greatest liberties...

The kernel-of-truth assumption is also pretty good. But stories also tend to be malevolent, because a book about fifty shades of grey really is as dull as it sounds, and a good villain lights up any day. Any "They were so stupid!" story no doubt carries elements of all three...

STO's D7 and Connie models in action. The D7 is beautiful.

was kind of hard to distinguish it from the k'tinga without all the weird lighting effects from the show.

as good as the VFX were in season 2, these ships are still being obscured way too much to really get a good handle on them.

It's pretty much a K'Tinga with some minor changes and new nacelles, it's probably closer to the source material than the Connie is.

According to Cryptic's lead ship artist, they weren't given a size for the D7, so they just scaled it up about the same amount the Connie is compared to TOS, about 150%

Here it is with the TOS hull texture. Ignore the missing saucer windows, it was a bug that has been fixed.

It's a shame that yet again, the only way to get them is by playing "Russian Roulette Lockbox" with your money in the game.

I don't think Drexler made it up, but similarly to that whole "25% different" thing, guys like Drexler and Eaves never directly speak with the network honchos, so it's like a game of "telephone".

My understanding is the early NX-01 submissions were a little too NCC-1701 looking, which is why UPN rejected them. I’d bet that they then asked for examples of some other configurations and chose the Akira. This was probably discussed with B&B who then communicated “use the Akira design” down the layers of management to Drexler. All it takes is one guy in that chain to interpret the original directive totally literally and Drexler then believes the network wants the Akira completely unchanged.

it was on the back of the USS edison magazine.

looks like a kitbash using the malachowski-class saucer and bridge, maybe the shepard-class engines, possibly even walker-class nacelle pylons.

Must have loads of space in there, which makes sense since they filmed in a big old factory location or something similar.

I wonder what the ship's purpose would be. It looks a lot like the cargo or mining ships from the old Star Trek Armada game.
