He's dead, so a decomposed style. Likely as not, that is what I expect them to do. I don't understand this view that they won't.
Experience. From DIS and the Kelvin movies. In which literally this exact same plot point already was fumbled, by the very same writer.
The sentiment is not "they gonna' fuck it up". The sentiment is "they have to watch out to not fuck this up." It's not that people aren't capable to better themselves - quite the opposite actually, you'll find me often defending season 2 of DIS. It's - if you have a friend, who's a nice guy, but has a well-known drinking problem - when you go out on a party to have a fun time, you'll be aware and gonna' watch his drinking more than that of others in your group.
After GoT Season 8, the expectation for any season of any show, will definitely have the word "fuck" in it.
I don't have that fear of them watching out. I think they are perfectly capable doing so, and will not spend time agonizing over whether or not they are going to fuck it up. Sorry. Zero anxiety at this moment in time.

This could be the easiest way to mention the old crew and move on. Riker Cameo over holo or whatever. Brief gossip over some the the rest of the gang. Trickle out other details of the remaining TNG cast via obligatory Polaski mini arc and you are done.
Riker makes sense because Frakes will be involved with the show. Frakes is involved in everything Trek related. In fact if you look behind you right now he is sitting their looking at you! Jason
It has been 10 years since that happened. I expect it will just be brought up as something that happened with little detail to it. The show may deal with political and persona consequences to it but I doubt there will be much technobabble as to why it happened. It just did and these were the consequences of it.
Frakes went from TNG to appear as a Riker in four Trek movies, an infomercial (!), The Experience, Deep Space Nine (Tom), Voyager AND Enterprise, voiced Will in 4 games, 4 audiobooks, Family Guy plus directed DS9, VOY, DSC now PCD as well as two movies and a video game. The man's a Star Trek icon!
A line in the first episode like Admiral Kim: "Since the destruction of Romulus the Klingons have annexed several worlds in this sector so I'm really busy Mr Picard, what do you want?" That's all you really need to know from 09. We didn't find any detail about the Federation-Klingon alliance in TNG, we went from Klingons blowing up the Grissom and Enterprise and killing Kirk's son, to serving on the new Enterprise bridge, in the space of a year. Given that the backstory pivoted around the event I suspect we'll find out a little more (Jean-Luc, I know the loss of the Titan during the evacuation of Romulus was devastating, but you need to get a grip and stop wearing flares) Clearly the explosion itself had a subspace element to it. Perhaps a Quark-Nova pushes a subspace wave out which can strips atmospheres of nearby planets. Perhaps an experiment with trilithium and soliton waves went wrong which caused the star to be destroyed and have the same type of destruction that Praxis suffered but on a larger scale.
Exactly. That and whatever the current political state of the romulan empre is is all we need to know. Any "trek scientific" explanation as to why and how things blew up 10 years ago would seem out of place.
The effects will of course still be moving on. We (at least in the western world) are still suffering the effects of 9/11. Such a major impact, which we know has made Picard a changed man, will be covered. Perhaps the Federation refused to help Romulus during (or after) the nova (indeed that seemed to be a plotline in the 'countdown' comic) and that was enough to make Picard hang up his pips. I'm sure we'll find out why he's no longer captain, even if it's "he took a desk job", or "he had to order his crew to their death" or similar. However I guarentee that the spin on the neutrino wave caused by the supernova is not what has impacted Picard.
Absolutely! (#OrvilleCounts) I think the only major official Trek projects Frakes hasn't been involved with since 1987 were the Kelvin movies! Quite a thought that...
