Otherwise known as the "Let's completely undo the episode where Wesley transcends humanity to become a super being and instead decides he wants to be a regular wank serving on the night shift." Wow, what a promotion.

Meh. Riker turned down being a Q. Maybe becoming a super being isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

Maybe the Traveler exaggerated about how wonderful it is, or maybe it's great for some people (like the Traveler) but not for others (like Wesley). Maybe it just wasn't Wesley's thing. In any case from an in-universe standpoint, it is not completely surprising that a Star Trek character chooses to be a "regular human" over the chance at being a super being.

In fact Star Trek has often shown us that characters who have gained super abilities have run into problems (Gary Mitchell, Charlie Evans, Riker in "Hide and Q", Barclay in "The Nth Degree", Kes by the end of her time on the series. Although I suppose it probably worked out for Sisko.

Wes was a mama's boy, and most likely just missed her too much.

There's the novelverse explanation from A Time to series ... he turned up as the traveller but did not have dressy clothes so they gave him a uniform to wear

I think he just eventually got creeped out by the Traveller.

When people assume that Wes could never go back to Starfleet after being a Traveler, they’re forgetting that when we met the Traveler, he was posing as Kominski’s assistant to bum rides on starships.

Why do I suddenly hear the Traveller as Herbert from Family Guy?

"Wesley... Wesley... You will experience dimensions beyond comprehension. But first, pull down your pants..."

Wesley jizzing over warp cores in this scene and saying nothing of any value whatsoever here is painful.

Yeah, something probably happened. Without a doubt. It was no real surprise to me that Wesley ended up back in Starfleet by the time of the deleted scene in Nemesis.

Why have him back at all then? If you want something radically different they might as well just invent a new character.

Certainly mean less pissed off people who were fans of him as was who'd consider it a con to be served up a changed person.

But people DO change, that is real life and reality. The fact that Picard has changed in the last 20 years since nemesis is the exact reason why Stewart decided to come back to the role. Seeing Perfect Picard command the Enterprise on another mission isn't interesting, we saw him do that from 1986 - 2002. Now seeing Picard come back from the biggest failure of his life, that is really fucking interesting. Failure is probably the most relateable aspect of the human condition and to have that explored through a character like Picard is quite frankly incredibly exciting.

Yes - I'm a bit baffled by demands that we see a 80 year old Picard on the Bridge of a Starship like no time at all has passed.

According to the Eaglemoss/Hero Collector fan group on Facebook, Eaglemoss stated at the current London con that the series will include SHIPs. :adore:

I can’t share the link outside the group, but you can verify if you’re in it. It’s the 12pm midnight (London time) post by Dave Combe.

    Ships! Spaceships! :bolian:

In a Star Trek Show?! Don't be daft!

If you want to see Captain/Admiral Picard, I wonder if they'll give us that in flashback squences??

Precisely BECAUSE time has passed and things SHOULD be demonstrably different.

Sorry, but such expectations are unrealistic and the show should take great pains to avoid giving us an “as he was” Picard all these years later. Only Ethan Hunt gets to be that kind of character.

The characters will be describing them just off-screen to cut down on the budget:

My the Enterprise-F is a fantastic looking ship - oh there she goes to warp - amazing!

They could handle Picard's action scenes the same way...have somebody narrate them radio show style.

"What amazing prowess for a man his age--taking down five Klingons with a single drop kick!"

Wait. I thought this was the Picard show, not the Kirk show. :shifty:

Or they will just re-use those Excelsior class/Enterprise-D establishing shots from TNG with the Enterprise edited out. Canonically the Excelsior class will still be in service due to starfleet budget cuts.
