The nerd community loved to bag on Affleck because of Daredevil, too.Wow, I know there had been stories about him being a possibility, but I didn't think they'd actually go for him.
I don't really hold the Twilight movies against him, but that is a lot of baggage in the nerd community to bring along. I'm optimistic that they knew what they were doing when they cast him.
Variety said:Sources tell Variety that Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play “The Batman” in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming superhero film, which hits theaters June 25, 2021.
While sources say it’s not yet a done deal, Pattinson is the top choice and it’s expected to close shortly. Warner Bros. had no comment.
And look how that turned out.The nerd community loved to bag on Affleck because of Daredevil, too.
I do hate that online journalism has lost the ability to wait until it's official. It still could fall apart.
That said, I don't know if marketing-wise this is the right choice for DC. They're still in the process of righting their ship, and unfortunately most of the general public aren't going to think "Oh, he was great in that Cronenberg movie!" They're going to think "The Twilight guy!? Man, is Warner Bros desperate."
They're wrong, but they're still going to think it.
Fandom pre 1989-- "What? The guy from Night Shift and Beetlejuice is playing Batman? It's going to flop!"
I'm going to give him a chance.
Yep, Keaton's the classic example. (And still the best screen Batman ever.)And the filmmakers won't care, because they actually went through the process of casting the actor and chose him for a reason, so they know what he can do and have confidence that he'll win the fans over when they actually see the performance -- otherwise they wouldn't have cast him. This has happened countless times before -- notably with Michael Keaton.
Okay, I'm gonna say what always I tell my sisters whenever they say that the kids from Harry Potter and Twilight are weak actors. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are all good actors that have given several great performances on the indie movie scene since their breakout roles ended (and have grown in talent since their admittedly weaker but serviceable beginnings).
No, no, it was Mr. Mom.... SOURCE: I'm oldFandom pre 1989-- "What? The guy from Night Shift and Beetlejuice is playing Batman? It's going to flop!"
I'm sure Pattinson's a fine actor and all, but I'm a bit puzzled why there doesn't seem to be anywhere near the same clamor for a black Batman as there is a black James Bond, even though the US has a much higher proportion of black citizens than the UK does. And if there's anything that could breathe life into the tired, tired Batman-verse, it'd be a minority Batman. IMHO.
