Has people missed the fact that he also has gotten another voice acting gig for a video game?. I think he will be fine and even if he does look fragile I am suspecting it might actually enhance what I think they are going to be doing with the character by playing up the fact that Picard is now old and near the end if his life. With the same genius a few posts later asserting further nonsense about CBS having to discount Season Two of DSC in order to persuade Netflix to demean itself for a second season. Stewart looks perfectly fine for his age, incidentally.
I think its more like, Amazon saw all the stats about most streamed show, and other metrics - and thought, let's outbid Netflix - and they won it. I am not sure if CBS gave Netflix first refusal, or just put it out to bidding?
I think it's more, CBS-AA plan to go global in the next few years so don't want to build up any one of their competitors too strongly.
I agree. They are learning from what Netflix did when it started creating it's own content because they knew everyone else would start taking their stuff back like Disney is going to do with the Marvel stuff. Jason

Ah yes that is different but that is not just marvel. Anything disney/marvel/star wars will be leaving. That group covers a whole lot more then just Marvel and will be a big hit to Netflix. I saw an article yestuday that 49% of young viewers say that would cancel Netflix if it loses Disney, Marvel, Office, and Friends. (though saying you will and doing are different things).
I predict we get a shocking scene where Picard steps in physically to deal with someone he could have easily handled on TNG, but gets his ass handed to him brutally. I suspect he will die by the end of the series. But will he die making a difference, or will he die peacefully, reflecting on the differences he made?
Unless Picard has a son in this show, and if the show does go for the 3 plus seasons they planned for. The name of the show having Picard in it, probably means he wont be going anywhere soon.
Then Q shows up 'Hello Mon Capitan, Welcome to the afterlife....uh..again' The only things I watch on netflix are the various Star Trek series and the Bert Kreischer comedy specials. If Trek got pulled and moved to Prime or to CBSAA when it goes international, i'd say good bye to Netflix as well
Yeah, now they've lost the Marvel shows there's literally only Trek on Netflix that appeals to me. I'd love to drop it but...
I'm not sure about the specifics, but I'd easily bet that Stewart signed on for this to be Picard's swan song, much as Nimoy was coaxed back to the film franchise with the promise of a great death scene. It might take three seasons to get there, but I think it's pretty likely they are crafting his goodbye.

Maybe they'll show the Federation slowly becoming the V'Draysh, and bring in David Warner, minus makeup, as a mysterious high ranking Federation official. The Federation is involved in all sorts of shady activities, collaborating with the Cardassians to control elections, placing Romulan refugees in camps that officially don't exist, firing Admiral Janeway when she investigates the connections and laughing about it with the Cardassian ambassador, and rolling back environmental restrictions on warp research in the name of progress. Every time Picard tries to speak out against these acts, his words are called fake and he is ignored. He becomes persona non grata to the point that younger Starfleet officers don't even know who he is anymore. The gaslighting is so pervasive that David Warner, who is at the same shuttle stop as Picard each day, remarks how the building lights have five lights. Picard corrects him saying there are four. Warner smirks and tells Picard, "Sure there are, whatever you say" dismissively. This all seems so horribly familiar to Picard, but in his old age his mind has forgotten his most painful Starfleet memories to preserve his mental health. Picard overhears a bunch of Starfleet security officers referring to Warner as General Madred, and hears them saying "Hail Cardassia!" Picard records this on his PADD and rushes off to inform Starfleet Intelligence director Tyler (played by Shazad Latif in old age makeup). Tyler says "We'll look into it," then throws the PADD into the incinerator after Picard leaves. Picard is then shot in the back while trying to send a message to Data. Warner then bends over Picard and says "Hail Cardassia!" Riker walks in, steps past the dying Picard and tells General Madred that the V'Draysh will make the Federation great again. Madred casually asks Riker, knowing the dying Picard is hearing, how many lights there are. Riker says, "Five". Picard says, "There are four lights," then dies.
Frail? That's just blatantly made up. The guy does regular "animated" (pun intended) voice work for American Dad, fosters pit bulls, and still hits up conventions and press tours regularly.
Now I want to see Star Trek: Picard modeled after The Cool Kids, where he, Geordi, Deanna, and Riker live in a nursing home, and get into all kinds of hijinks.

Had DSC actually worked out, they wouldn't have spun the "wheel of showrunner" so many times, or shallow, hollow pandering to audiences the way that seems ubiquitous nowadays. If DSC was popular they'd still do all these spinoffs but with more assuredness. Maybe Picard and Section31 will actually do what DSC could not, if they have tighter storylines and arcs... Yeah, because in 1987 Gene wanted a middle aged bald guy without slapping a wig onto him and being caked in make-up to look a decade younger to look more "soap opera studly"... his acting back then was compelling. His acting in X-Men was compelling. If he trotted the landscape via jet plane to do local planes he'd be compelling. David McCallum is he's almost a decade older and is still compelling to watch in NCIS (or was, I've not seen the show in a couple of years but I don't necessarily watch shows solely for any single actor involved), so why wouldn't Stewart be if he's able and willing and wanting? (Unfortunately, Macht was technically only 2 years younger but still looked younger than that... ) And Stewart's Picard did carry rather a lot of season 1 when the scripts for everyone else, or even for Picard (!!!), were sub-par. That's not a dig at other actors, Stewart simply had arguably the most acting experience and drew out potential in Picard that the writers latched onto* and honed. Season 1 growing pains and all... * it was Robert Justman (of TOS fame) that convinced Roddenberry to go with a bald middle aged guy instead of a young firm hunky cliche with real, luxurious hair and not the hair made from the same soft and luxurious vinyl material going into Corinthian Leather... Lots of 30 year olds wither away as well. The issue is more of... attitude. Or "you're as old as you feel", ignoring real life issues of being older and more frail aside and some 30 year olds aren't as lucky. But more real 30 year olds will have to wait a while before experiencing the thrill of that, though they'll likely start to get an inkling by their 40s. Many fans are indeed curious, many excited and hopeful. Some cautiously so. He's willing to do all this work, and must have really liked the sales pitch he got. Whatever that pitch is, which must be compelling to Stewart but not necessarily to audiences - of which audiences may or may not know of or ultimately enjoy... until any produced scripts are aired. May Picard get better script treatment than say, oh, Scotty... He's aged, everyone does. When people are told "never grow old", they often mean it for two reasons - neither of which the one being told always appreciates until time's tenacious traipsing takes its toll... by the seashore. (man, that alliteration made even me wretch...)
