What We Left Behind - Documentary Update Confirms *Some* HD Remastering

Turns out it's a blessing that it's not showing near me because I'm going to see Eddie Izzard perform tonight!

I hope everyone enjoys seeing it on the big screen.

In case you were wondering, the poster is the promo image with Behr holding the station pn one side, the Emmett Till on the other.

First Reactions..

There are some surprisingly talented singers in the cast. I was very impressed by the opening and closing numbers.

The interviews with the cast were heartwarming and funny. Marc Alaimo expressed his big beef with the producers and Ira Behr gave the perfect response to it during the doc.

I was happy that Ira Behr gave a shout out to the writers who left DS9 after season 2.
Apparently an interview with Peter Allen Fields was left on the cutting room floor.

I thought the doc did overemphasize the whole middle child thing a bit much. DS9 wasn't as loved as much as TOS or TNG, and Im sure that bugged Ira Behr and some of the actors. As a fan I want to hear more about the show than I do perceptions of its public popularity or place within the franchise.

The documentary makes much of how DS9 explored social issues and broke ground with serialization. I thought both were overstated. For most of its run DS9 did many episodes that could be considered standalone, standalone albeit within continuing storylines. What was not overstated was DS9's positive portrayal of a loving relationship betwen a black man and his son.

I enjoyed hearing the actors read some of the negative fan mail. Armin Shimmerman agreed with one critic.

The HD footage looks good. Some of the footage really stands out and some of it just looks OK. There may be some shots that were in SD. I thought the location footage from Indiscretion looked best.

Overall, I enjoyed it.

I forgot about that. That clip did look exceptional. The way it was edited into the documentary got a big laugh.
Sorry for confusing you. To anyone else, it's Bashir's introduction to Garak in Past Prologue. Seeing Siddig's facial expressions crisp and blown up was amazing.

Howdy Greg!

As I said previously... :p

For my money it's very much worth seeing (especially on the big screen) if possible. Not sure how much time/miles "a few towns over" is. I took time off work and drove 6+ hours, then took a train into NYC to see it, but that was the premiere. And they showed it on a Sunday night that time.

Thanks for the recommendation. Took your advice and drove over to the movie, which turned out to be only four miles away!

Great film!

...was it a good enough recommendation for you to send me one of your books in thanks? :p

Glad you enjoyed it! I went with a friend and she said it was everything I promised and more. :) Interesting little roundtable discussion afterward.

Friend and I get together once a week to watch currently Buffy and Angel (we've been doing this for years with various series). After tonight we both talked about maybe revisiting DS9 next
