Prince Harry announces the birth of his first child

It’s refreshing they gave him a non-traditional royal name.
It's short for Archibald, which is apparently from the name of one of Princess Diana's ancestors, Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll. I'm surprised that that fact and the baby's actual first name aren't seeing more press.

As for a traditional royal name, it doesn't much matter, because if the baby ever actually had to take the throne, he would doubtlessly be dubbed George or Henry or some other regular kingly name for his coronation. That's how the royals roll.
Harry is short for Henry, and there have been guys named Henry running that country for a thousand years, give or take.

Zara is a variation of Sarah, which is an even older name than Harry.

But that kid is going to be teased for the rest of his life if he ever likes a girl named Betty or Veronica.
Doubly so, perhaps, if it turns out the Betty in that case is short for Elizabeth. ;)

I read somewhere that in private, Queen Elizabeth was "Lillibet" to her sister and mother, "Mummy" to Charles and her other children, "Granny" to William and Harry... so in recent years I suppose she's now "Great-Granny."

Gosh once you have to put 'Great' in a title it makes it sort of less friendly sounding. When we were kids we called our Great Grandmother ... Grammy. Our not Great (:luvlove:) Grandmothers we called Nanny. I wonder how Meagan refers to Charles? I wonder if she calls him Dad? Personally I never got in the habit of calling my in-laws Mum and Dad, just used their given names which seemed kind of disrespectful at first so I tended to not call them anything when I could.

I suppose they have worked out what to call him in private. But in public, she would have to address him as "Your Royal Highness."

I believe my family was aligned with the House of Stuart... but let's let bygones be bygones. Congrats to the couple.
