The Orville has been pretty dull this year up until the last two episodes where it totally redeemed itself. However at least it encouraged one to watch.

The Orville vs. Disco stuff gets tiresome. Fundamentally, I think the fandom divide comes down to what makes you think Trek was an entertaining franchise. If you're more into the "lore" aspects of Trek you'll be more into Discovery, which has "modern storytelling" but (at least in the first two seasons) heavily referenced earlier Trek. But if you enjoyed Trek because it was a framework to tell a certain kind of story, you'll be more partial to the Orville.

^This. I don't give a fuck about "Trek lore" when the stories and characters are no good.

I think that's entirely possible. I think for some of us there is the hurdle of there being a vocal contingent of fans shouting at us, "Orville is real Star Trek," which gets tiresome, and less inclined to try to like the show. And I found liking it an effort.

I honestly have no interest in Orville, and having it brought up as some cheap alternative to real Star Trek developed by a comedian who has never demonstrated a single original idea, constantly on this forum, has only made me less inclined to give it any of my time. I need to watch less tv, not more. Star Trek for me is like pizza. Even when it's not great, it's still pretty good. And Discovery has been a damned good pizza. Orville can stay in the box and get cold.

All big franchise chain pizza is pretty bad, and some just sucks. STD is definitely the product of a big franchise chain.

I make my own pizzas. Does that count as fan productions?

I have no problems enjoying both, however Orville gets the benefit of the doubt if things don't make sense as Star Trek is supposed to be somewhat more serious and as such it should really get its story straight.

It must be said that wonder Orville has kept it clean and simple plot wise which has helped, Star Trek Discovery's plot has at times threatened to strangle it which hasn't helped at all.

I'm the opposite. Star Trek gets the benefit of the doubt as not all their stories make sense. Orville is something new and had time to hook me in. First season almost got there and then didn't. Second season, same deal.

I'm pretty sure my homemade pizzas violate general guidlines not to mention canon as they normally feature 6 cheeses, 6 meats and 6 vegetables/mushrooms as the regular number of toppings.

My pizza is 25% different than a pizza from the 60's.
