Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 4

DC and Marvel universes don't usually mix well. I doubt they could get Hayley Atwell let alone a Carter clone.

 

The Waverider FX seemed particularly nice tonight.

Constantine's ancestor's name is pronounced the way Constantine's name is supposed to be pronounced according to the comics (rhyming with "mine" instead of "mean"). But 55 AD, only a dozen years into the Roman occupation of Brittania, seems a little early for a Celtic chieftain to have a Roman name.

Mona's relationship with Wolfie is reminiscent of Caitlin Snow's with Killer Frost on The Flash, at least before they learned to communicate directly within their shared head. I hadn't realized that Wolfie was actually a distinct personality, rather than just Mona losing control of her anger.

I guessed that Tabitha would turn out to be the Fairy Godmother, largely because I saw Jane Carr's name in the guest credits and had seen publicity photos of her return to the show. Also it's possible that the name is an in-joke, a reference to Sam and Darrin's daughter Tabitha on Bewitched.

 

Correction: Turns out that Constantine's ancestor isn't named Constantine, but Kon-Sten-Tyn, and is an established comics character: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/kon-sten-tyn/4005-79513/ Which is a rather silly name for a character introduced in DC's adult Vertigo line.

 

So Nip/Stuck, what came first, that title or the script?

 

Yeah, that surprised me too.
This one was pretty fun, creepy Gary was really funny. The whole eye nipple was pretty creepy. "Gary Green is all the man we need."
Having the Legends on the Waverider trapped under the ice was a nice way to force them to address some of their issues with each other.
I love that it was deciding to just have fun that ended up freeing the Waverider.
I did not realize that the Fairy Godmother was coming back, so her being Tabitha was a big surprise for me.
With so much attention being paid to the dragon egg, I'm assuming the dragon will end up hatching just time to end up helping out in the finale somehow.

 

Is it just me or did they utilize several clips from the Constantine pilot in tonight's episode? If not, they were pretty good re-creations.

 

It was definitely a different child actress as Astra, since it's been five years. The sequence looked familiar, but I'm not willing to sit through CW Seed's commercials just to skim through the pilot episode for the relevant scene.

Anyway, this pretty much verifies what already seemed to be the case, that the Arrowverse is in continuity with the NBC Constantine rather than the animated City of Demons version (in which Astra is white). Also that it's out of continuity with Lucifer, though we already knew that too (since Lucifer's title character isn't the willing corruptor of souls that Constantine's Lucifer was, and since Constantine's angels were invisible to mortals and forbidden to interfere in their lives).

When I was watching the strip club scenes, I wondered, "This is supposed to be Hell?" Then I realized, maybe the dancers were the ones being punished.

So we're only 2 years from ARGUS taking over and creating a dystopian police state? However plausible that feels relative to the sorry state of real life, I have a hard time believing the Arrowverse would actually go through with that storyline two seasons from now. Well, maybe the Crisis will negate that future. Or maybe the involvement of young Zari with the current plotline will change her future somehow.

 

^ Re: the dancers, my thought was, "So Hell itself, the most evil, amoral, decadent, sinful, wicked place in the multiverse has ... bars with fully clothed dancers? Just ... dancing?"

 

^Oh, that's what makes it Hell! A strip club where the dancers never strip! It's the torment of Tantalus!

This really was one of the blandest and least hellish depictions of Hell I've ever seen. Heck, Arrowverse Gotham City was more hellish than Arrowverse Hell. I guess the makers of Legends didn't want to diverge too far from their light, fun tone.

 

Okay, I tried to sit through the commercials on CW Seed to find the Nergal/Astra scene in Constantine's pilot but ran out of patience; I accidentally clicked too far ahead and they make you watch a full set of commercials even if you go back over an ad break. So I googled for photos instead and found this montage, and it looks like last night's episode did indeed reuse the Nergal footage from "Non Est Asylum," albeit with the new Astra actress in place of Bailey Tippen.

I think this is the first time they've used actual footage from NBC's Constantine, rather than just implicit nods to it.

 

So how come Gary's book club "The Collector" was written by Neil Lachance instead of John Fowles (who actually wrote it)? The same book is clearly discussed since it involves keeping someone prisoner.

 

They did say the book was terrible, so maybe the producers or the legal department decided it would be better to use a fictional author than impugn a real one.

No, that's not it. What they showed was the horned demon Nergal in blue flame, as in the photos I linked to above. That was earlier, in the second act of the pilot.

Ah, okay. Looks like a mix of several scenes from the NBC pilot at least.

What's interesting is that John did the same thing in "Non Est Asylum" and again here -- when offered the temptation to save Astra in exchange for betraying the person he was there to help, he said "I'm sorry" and chose Astra above his mission. And in both cases, the offer was a trick. I think this is the third time he's been tempted with Astra that we've seen (Mallus tried it by mimicking Astra's voice last season) and the second time he's fallen for it.

 

I was a little surprised Gary was still working with Tabitha and Neron after they go rid of his evil nipple, I thought thought that was all just the nipple's influence. His little power trip was both a bit funny and disturbing. It was kind of nice to see them acknowledge that they haven't exactly been the nicest to him all the time.

Yeah, that was a bit underwhelming.
It will be interesting to see what they do with Nora now. Will she stay a fairy godmother or break the curse somehow?
I completely forgot about the fact that Nora is a kid in 2019.

 

As he explained toward the end, he was trying to play along to protect the Legends, only making wishes that wouldn't kill them. If you think about it, it makes sense; his other option was to renounce his Godmother, which would free Tabitha to take another contract-holder who might have let her kill the Legends (and Gary). So he was being smarter than he seemed, although he did end up enjoying it a bit too much.

I think you mean Zari; that's also true of Nora, but it was mentioned last week, not this one.
