I may have the opportunity to see Endgame this week but I'm thinking twice about it. I may wait until it comes out on disk just because of my weak bladder. I hear "there's an app for that" though.
Love that film, especially The Pointy Birds of Pointy Pointy poem. i preordered the DVD from Sky and can stream it the day it’s out. I considered risking the bladder thing, but the show times in my town don’t allow me to watch it while the kids are at school because it finishes after school ends. Last film: John Wick
I watched 2010: The Year We Make Contact after catching 2001 over the weekend. Veeeery different movie to the first one in terms of style, and pacing, and just the size of the flick. I know it doesn't get the critical accolades compared to its predecessor and it's now very dated due to assuming the USSR and the Cold War would still be a thing now, but I still like it, I think it's a solid film, and not a bad adaptation of Clarke's second book. Plus, it introduces a ship called the Leonov, which I think is one of the best near-future spaceships ever to appear on film, and would go on to heavily influence Paul Bryant's later design for the Omega class destroyer in Babylon 5.
It’s not without its faults, but it’s one of my all time favourite movies. 2001 is a piece of art, ground breaking in scope and delivery, but entertainment it’s not. I recently watched the Childhoods End mini series and it did make me think that 2061 was way past due, not least because it’s my favourite of the odyssey books.
It's been a long, long time, but I think I remember that 2010 book was better than the movie (in most cases, duh!) but the rest of them that I've read (all but the last?) seemed like they'd make great movies.
I need to read 3001 again. From what I remember of the story, a mini series would suit it better, now that cinematic effects are the norm on TV. I’d like to see those towers on screen, and the monolith in Africa. All of it really. This calls for a petition!
3001 would be awesome. Also, I think we are finally at a point where you could finally do a movie adaption of Rendezvous with Rama.
Aquaman. Just about as predictable as they come. And those sound effects! They were new 20 years ago, but it's time to get beyond The Phantom Menace Ben Burt style. It's almost as bad as the old Wonder Woman or 6 Million Dollar Man superpower sound effects. The visual effects (CG) were way over the top and completely unnecessary. The people I watched it with like the movie a lot. I sat there bored through most of it, remembering my film production instruction and training.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark (everything is great except the melting Nazis which is just stupid, they just made wax statues that they then melted with a blow torch or something like that!!! )
