I've never been particularly satisfied with the idea that Starfleet used the Wrath of Khan uniforms for 70 years with almost no changes, and I don't even like the changes that they did make. I understand that they needed to save money where they could, but if the lost era ever shows up properly, I imagine they'll want to do something new with the uniforms. These are my ideas of what they might look like.

The full dress uniform is the uniform from Wrath of Khan with only a few small changes. Rank insignia have been changed to match TNG and are only found on the shoulder strap. Department colors have been simplified to blue (sciences and medical), white/red (command), and gold (engineering and security), and the department color is used for the stripe down the side of the trousers (EDIT: This was already the case and I just didn't realize it). The standard uniform can be worn under the dress jacket in place of the TWOK undershirt.

The standard uniform is more colorful like the uniforms of TOS and TNG. Unlike TWOK's plain undershirt, it includes Starfleet and rank insignia for everyday use without the jacket. This uniform would be worn in most situations.

I've also made a mostly black variant.

That's a really good intermediate styling of the two uniforms.

Generally like them, however I would suggest that you shouldn't keep the "error" of the white shirt/collar and red "blood stripe" it looks very weird in the "Class B variants" (but no worse than the TWOK overalls), they should match like the other colors.

That said, I do like both uniforms generally, and I think if something like this had been available, the "experiemental phase" of Starfleet uniforms of the mid to late 24th Century wouldn't have happened.

I tried making the collar red for command and it looks much better, but I don't like how it looks with the jacket on. Plus, red was for cadets in TWOK. I agree that the inconsistency is weird though. I may tinker with it some more.

    EDIT: Tinkered some more.

I like them but I would add a belt and belt buckle.

    Much better.

Tho at the risk of being nitpicky, I think the buckles are off-centre (in your defence, the originals have the same problem).

I just realized I put the same picture twice. Perhaps when I've gotten some sleep I'll see what I can do about those belt buckles.

That last one strikes me as a VOY-era variant. With the vertical black stripe being reminescent of the DSC gender stripe, it's actually pretty nice to being able to identify the gender of the crewmen in question. I think I like it better as VOY replacement than as Lost Era replacement though...

Ok, I really feel the first one as Pre-TNG while I actually think the second version works awesome as a Post-TNG uniform.

A couple of possiblities if we follow the MM era by having extra color options:

    Possibly.

Given the similarities between the "black" variant and the 2360s "Cadet Blacks" and the 2360s-2370s "Surface Operations Blacks" I'd also suggest it could be the "Class C"/ODU variant (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operational_Dress_Uniform)

    NCO variant? (MCPO shown):

I think that looks very good. I can't decide though if the comm badge should be bigger or smaller than the belt buckle or if the comm badge and belt buckle should both have the same emblem on it.

The comm badge is copied from the belt buckle. It looks a little weird to me, but it might look better in real life.

Speaking of real life, having a metal badge on the undershirt may be uncomfortable with the jacket on. If I ever make this in real life, I might use a TMP insignia patch and a separate communicator.

I really like your variants. I still like the idea of simplified colors, but this is something I can definitely work with.

That would sort of break up the comm badge and belt looking the same. One can be the Starfleet Insignia looking old school were that is all you have. The other has the circular backdrop. Not sure which would look better. Would the circular one look better as a com badge were the main plain insignia is in the belt. I do think it would make for a interesting in transition outfit in between "TOS" and "TNG" where both the old Insignia and new one that would eventually take over on "TNG" are sort of together on the uniform just in different places.

You know if you wanted you could even use those different badges used in "Future Imperfect" and "Parallels" The fact that Riker sort of dreamed them up but also existed in a alternate universe means it very possible that Starfleet at some point used that badge for real and it was either discontinued yet RIker sort of saw one before and it impacted Jean Luc's idea of making the future look different but only being able to use RIker's imagination to work with or also in one universe that look never went away for that Starfleet.

Although generally fine, on the standard uniform the cut of the seam between the bright breast and the dark shoulders would tend to make people look heavy because it makes the whole front look round.

The belt buckle placement feels off-center in most of the renders.

The first issue I may be able to improve a bit by adjusting the side panel, particularly where it connects to the shoulders. The belt buckle is definitely off center, not for stylistic reasons but just because I didn't bother to change it from the original image in the Star Trek Encyclopedia.

I like them all but I really like this last one which looks like Movie era uniforms with even more impressive detail. It also gets ride of what I know some people thought about those uniforms in that they looked kind of like marching band uniforms. This one looks very military oriented. I was wondering if they cam in different colors? I could see this at the moment when Starfleet broke in the new color codes with a Captain now wearing Red instead of gold and Engineers wearing gold instead of red.

I made something a bit like that once (or at least I think it was I who made it) but without the medals and stuff. I'd really rather stick with the maroon jacket for all departments though for consistency with canon. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here.

Edit: I've adjusted the side panel a bit on the standard uniform.
