I could see where Roddenberry might have been going with it, and when they abandoned the idea, there was cringe in it. If they could have found a better skirt, I might reconsider. Otherwise it's the cosmic cheerleader thing. Which was a cringe.
Who said it was? The skirts for women were abandoned almost at the same time. They're free to bring back the skirt for men and women if they want, just like in the 09 movie, at least for women.
