Poll If this was the end, would you be satisfied?

I would not be satisfied. It would be an OK but not great ending. Fortunately this is not the end.

 

I'm pretty fuzzy on the series "Enterprise" but references to the Temporal Cold War mention Federation temporal agents from the 31st Century (I'm happy to be corrected if I got that wrong) and of course In Voyager we get glimpses of the 29th Century. So... if it's more like the 32nd Century for Discovery I'm guessing the Federation will continue to move with the times. In fact it's quite possible the 32nd Century Federation is prepared for Discovery to rock up.

 

In that case, they might well just send them right back where they came from lickety-split. Hence, that signal 124 days later.

 

DSC does seem to be taking a very TNG-era trajectory when it comes to quality. That's the only reason I bothered watching season two after the abysmal season one. That's the reason I'll be watching season three, and expecting them to move closer to greatness.

 

If we were to continue with Mount/Romijn/Peck as leads in an Enterprise series, then, yes, I would be satisfied. If not, and this were the finale, then no.

 

Perhaps. It's also possible Discovery is needed to complete a mission before they go back. I kind of think they will eventually go back, just like Voyager wanted back in the Alpha Quadrant. There's family and sense of belonging in your own home or time.

 

The story would be much more appealing to me if they were trying to find a way home, though the bizarre canon-lockout that season two ended on suggests they're gone for good... although we have good reason to suspect that Georgiou will find a way back somehow.

 

Sure. The series really only does 2 stories a full season within a mission. Although, I'd personally like to see them follow Fuller's design and jump to another time. Would like to see them all suiting up in either the TMP's Space 1999 knockoff outfits or the Red Serge of the rest of the movie era for a season.

 

I'm not sure if I would be or not. Didn't people get pissed about These Are the Voyages because it involved Riker and Troi and the near last shot was them saying "End Program"? In Discovery, the Discovery got pushed aside in it's own show. That feels similar to TATV and Enterprise. It's great that the Enterprise is going on their missions, but it gives the Discovery and her crew a garbage farewell.

 

Honestly, if this had to be the end, I would have been largely satisfied. It was an epic finale. Flawed, yes, but lots of fun and heart went into it...And they closed enough out to bring a sense of closure while still leaving the possibilities open for novels or comics to tie-in to.

But I'm thrilled (and obviously prefer) that it is set to continue. And, I'm really (cautiously) excited to see what another season will bring.

 

The second season was a massive improvement. The humor was dialed way, way back, and the focus on character was put in the forefront. Honestly it reminds me more of DS9 than any of the other Berman Trek shows at this point.

I haven't seen any of the second season, but this comes as a surprise. Especially when so many Anti-Niners like The Orville. From what I heard, I thought the show had become more of a straight-up off-brand TNG.

 

Yeah, ending with a different crew would've felt too much like "TATV Lite". Because I know it's not the end and they probably didn't want show their hand until next year, I give "Such Sweet Sorrow" a pass, ending the way it did, that I wouldn't have if DSC weren't coming back.

 

To me, Orville is modern Voyager: Recycled Next Generation plots.

It's not bad, it's cosy nostalgia which pushes exactly zero boundaries.

I enjoyed the Mirror U first season, and I adored Pike second season, but right now I'm more interested in where Discovery goes in Trek's future. And what that future looks like. Hope it's severely different.

Boldly go where no Trek has gone before.

 

The way this S2 finale ended, sort of felt as if that was it for Discovery and the begining of "Enteprise NCC-1701". If that was the case, Yes I would be fine with it.
However moving Discovery forward 950 years not only fixes, but also frees up the writting staff from any canon restrictions. In other words freedom to tell fresh sci fi exploration stories. Everything will be new to discover.

 

No in the sense that I want to see more of the series, but it would be a reasonably satisfying end.

The sad thing is that I bet some viewers will think this was indeed the ending, and would have no idea that a third season was coming.

 

Simple answer is no. As someone has already written here, if this would be the end of the series, the ending is only slightly better than the TATV which, as we all know, is a very low bar to jump over.

 

Please not. I'd hate that. I'd rather have them stay there and become part of future starfleet.

We already had Voyager. Even if the execution was bad imo, a show introducing a new era of federation history is far more interesting than trying to make a better version of that show.
