Great Fight scenes. But?

I don't need to watch anything to tell you a near 60 year old woman can't do the same things she could in her 30's, physically

That's biology
Well that's great that you want to look the other way and call a woman in her Mid 50s (near 60 as you say) unfit and argue that she isn't as capable as demonstrated in her most recent movie. I guess this argument is over for you.

I would never watch a show or movie for the goddamned fight scenes.

Why not? People watch media for plot, cinematography, subject matter, location, acting, the actors (not the same thing), special effects, set design, costuming, score, makeup, dialog, and more. You're not superior for choosing one over the others. The best media hits on most of the above at the same time, though it's nearly impossible to hit every item.

I wouldn't watch Discovery for it's fight scenes, they're pretty meh. I do watch "Into the Badlands" for the fighting, because the choreography is usually amazing. The plot is nonsensical, but I don't need every show I watch to have great plot. That's like saying every piece of food I eat must be salty. Life is variety, after all.

While they were cinematic in scope and complexity and visuals, my only complaint about the fight scenes (and the space combat for that matter) was that it was all a little too busy and trying to fit too much into each shot sometimes.

At one point two rando red shirts are walking down a corridor when a torpedo hits and they get blown into space right next to the Leland/Nhan/Georgiou fight. Then we go full Inception zero gravity spinning corridor fight.

Then Nhan completely disappears from the fight for so long that she's not seen again for the entire rest of the episode as Georgiou continues to fight the Leland-1000. Did she die? Did she get knocked out? I guess that depends on if they re-signed the actress for next season. I hope they do so I can find out if she survived.

I don’t mind the odd fight scene here and there. A bit of hand to hand combat here and there, but I did feel that it went on for far too long in the finale.

Each to their own.
Hey, you have Michelle Yeoh; and 'fight scenes' are a major part of what she's specifically known for, likes to do, and can do VERY well. I certainly do not ever mind when the give her an extended kick-a$$ fight scene.;)

She doesn’t look a day over 40, must be the Kelpian diet she’s on.

She's beautiful

But the original point is what people can physically do past certain ages

In any combat sport it's RARE that any fighter can still compete at the top level at even 40 years old, by 50 it's unheard of

Most fighters over 40 start losing to people they would easily beat in their primes. Their speed diminishes, their reflexes, their resistance to damage, stamina, everything.

Obviously Michelle isn't doing real fights so the directors can do a lot but I guarantee you she is going home a lot sorer after a day of shooting than she was back in the day.

Which is why she deserves MORE credit

its true she's not doing any fighitng that's up with the height of her Hong Kong cinema days, but honestly, given that many Ear; Greu Hot level Star Trek fans are already having a tough time handling what she can do now, I don't think they could handle the action that went on in movies like Royal Warrior. Imagine fight scenes a couple magnitudes more actiony than what we are seeing in Disco. These people would be having hear attacks just watching.

With the exception of the Klingon fight scene back in episode 3, the fight choreography this season has been excellent - better than Game of Thrones, in fact. In particular the Empress Gorgeous/Controlled Leland fight in the finale. If you ever wonder how to judge a fight scene (if you're not a fight choreographer, martial artists, etc), especially unarmed hand to hand ones, a good trick is to turn the sound off and watch it silent. So much of a screen fight is made from the sound effects that if it still looks convincing without the sounds, rather than silly, the choreographer and performers have done a great job.

And they definitely did a gret job here.

(For those wondering, Michelle Yeoh started as a dancer, and was taught to screen-fight martial arts by Lam Ching Ying, who is well worth seeking out in movies like Prodigal Son)

As for ages - there's a thing we call "Old Man Fighting" - with age comes experience, and the twenty-somethings can leap around all they like, wasting energy, but but the older fighter can defend well, it's just a matter of time. (Trust me, I'm 50 and still win historical fencing tournaments)

It would be glorious.

The action and unique fight scenes are what really drive a great part of the episodes. The story is good but the action intensifies. After checking out Hubert Boorder and his IMBD it's understandable why I was drawn from the start to his
Fight Choreography . I will now be a follower of his work and a fan. Love it. Love it. Love it. Unique, Unique, Unique. What Is next? I'm Wating?
