I think the actress who played Ilia in the Motion Picture was Indian.

Depends on how badly they fared in the Eugenics Wars and WW3. If you take ST as being in a very different reality where things by the 1990's progressed out of track with us, there is no telling. That's a cop-out, but its not impossible.

Europe may have improbably survived the post atomic horrors better than a lot of other places

First off I have never treated anyone who does not look like me like shit....ever
If you are trying to label my ancestors in an effort to try have a dig at me then remember I am Irish we never had a slave trade, any political despot murdering murder etc

so get over your victim complex and thinking all white people were evil. To think every white person descended from some bigot says more about how you view things.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a conversation best taken to TNZ. These rich ironies could be unpacked there in a more efficient fashion.

Not liking it doesn't mean it isn't part of the show.

Parsis are mostly of Persian ethnicity, however. They came to India after being driven from their homeland due to being Zoroastrians and have kept their own distinct identity (largely because Parsi generally do not accept converts). There is still a small minority of Zoroastrians that remain, however.

Well, one news source I found, based in India, seemed to indicate that she had some Gujarati connection. On the other hand, an old American newspaper article, as well her UK obituary, stated that she was ethnically Parsi. So it looks like the Indian source may have needed clarification.

I always understood that she was of Mumbai, but not from Mumbai
I posted what I believed to be true because I read that she was Persian
But I won't argue about it, it's still safe to say that there are way too little Chinese or Indian actors cast in Trek, given that they make up a rather large portion of Earth's population now, never mind what there may be in the 23rd century.

If I were gay asking about about representation prior to discovery being released, you would be jumped upon for your attitude of barking instructions of "quit fucking worrying", but you can openly and freely do so here.
Your whole statement comes across as angry, and bitter full of resentment, I am sure you fail to see it. I dont.

Yep. She was Indian, not Iranian.

You can rest easy, because the Picard show lead will be a white straight male.

Cry me a river, this is the first time in the entire history of Star Trek (including Discovery) that there won't be a straight white male regular character.

And no, it's not a valid question, straight white male is the most overrepresented group in western media and you have the audacity to point at one season of one tv show and act like "OMG, shouldn't straight white males be represented too?". Ridiculous!

From Mumbai but apparently ethnically Parsi (Persian origin) as others have pointed out.
