I'm a fan of Discovery but I've never seen Game of Thrones in my life. And I used to moderate the TOS Forum.
Incidentally, my favorite thing DSC ever put out was "Calypso". That's about as far from being an action shoot-'em-up as you can get.

TOS was action packed beat up science fiction !
Tastes change with age, as do people in general. It's possible to like a lot of different kinds if entertainment, in the same space of time. Discovery is something I struggle to like and managed to do so because of Pike and the more grounded approach to bringing older Trek values in. But I still enjoy more action oriented series and episodes too.
yes i know as the studio wanted fist fights and shooting,i knew a few ppl that saw star trek 09 and liked it but are not fans of star trek and said trek was to slow and boring not enough action and fighting
No fans haven't changed at all. Going back to when TMP was released, fans have always been complaining that the current iteration of Star Trek isn't real Star Trek, and that complaint gets made with every new iteration to the point it's still being made in regards to Kelvin Trek and Disco. And this will continue with all the new stuff coming out, with the possible variation being used for the Picard Show that it "isn't really TNG."
The "fans" do not speak with one voice--and never have. People watch Star Trek--or various different versions of Trek--for different reasons. We're a famously opinionated and argumentative bunch, as this board proves every day. We never agree on anything. 
And when you take into account that there are actually seven different Trek shows (and thirteen movies) made over the course of fifty-plus years . . . well, of course, some people are going to like some Treks better than others. Some of us grew up on TOS, others grew up on VOYAGER, or are just now discovering the reboot movies or DISCO. And, as noted, some of us have different tastes now than we had when we were ten, or sixteen, or fifty-nine, or whatever. For example, some fans think TMP is the greatest Trek movie ever made; others find it tedious. There is no fannish party line.
We are not a monolithic mass, there is no "right" way to watch Trek, and the whole "true fan" nonsense is mostly just gatekeeping and better flushed out an airlock . . . .

I think Discovery in particular has bought in a lot of its own new fans while maybe alienating a fair number of old fans. Not saying that there aren't old fans who like it though.
But TV and movies are changing in general, either in going "dark" which has been a thing since the rebooted batman series, or in that they reflect the values of the day.
I think the episodic format is becoming rarer and rarer too, Discovery is certainly not a show you can jump into on any episode.
Ironically, at least in my opinion, Discovery is at its best with episodes like "new eden" which was a very "old school" style episode.
Well the thing is we are going to have multiple series soon, so it's my HOPE that with the picard show they can give the other "half" of the fanbase what they want, just a good traditional star trek show set after nemesis.
I genuinely think that's all many fans wanted, a well written, well acted traditional trek, continuing after nemesis, instead we got another prequel with mushroom drive and it was all a bit... odd.
So I just hope they do the picard show right, dont feel the need to go weird and wonderful with tge characters and story, at way they can keep discovery all experimental and "new" and have a show for both sets of fans

I've been a ST fan since TNG days, and while I do have an affinity for that era of Trek, I've become a fan of Discovery - and in the process, I've seen more interest than ever in TOS, both for myself personally and for others. Obviously a prequel is supposed to accomplish that, but it's remarkable how it's progressed, because I initially feared that DSC would be nothing but name-dropping and vague references to TOS to rope in fans. Instead I think there's been a revitalization of the franchise, as shown in all the upcoming Trek incarnations.
I think there's also been a liberation from the old expectations to go to the big screen, given the long story arcs and cinematic quality of the new style. That's refreshing in itself.
Fans haven't changed, everyone's interests are still ultra-diverse.
Although now we have the bizarre advent of organised toxic fandom. Like Bjo Trimble's letter-writing campaign from a twisted mirror universe, dedicated to ruining what they don't like.

Fans have changed because the product has changed along with the competition and even the viewing platforms. Every version of Star Trek is a snap shot of its time. The Original Series style is a lock to its era, to its production values, its politics, its formula... to TV of the 60's. The Next Generation fitted within the TV landscape of its time as did Voyager and Deep Space Nine, and later Enterprise. 'Discovery' is flavoured by its competition and the platform it is presented on. Paid streaming services offer products that compete with others of its kind (like 'Game of Thrones') so yes current Trek markets to an audience who have that preference, who have the expendable income and expectations of shows that have the option for increased violence and in Discovery's case, the cringe-worthy usage of a naughty word. There would have to be a section of the audience previous broadcast Trek catered to that streamed TV does not, so obviously those fans have not so much changed but are not part of the collective anymore.
Are any of these other shows going to be 'free to air'? If I hadn't found this board a couple of years ago I wouldn't have known about Discovery and even now I know one other person who actually watched it. These other incarnations I really don't think I'll ever get to see. Current Trek is not as 'available' as it should be reach a greater audience. I seriously would love to watch the Picard show but if it's going to be try-hard like Discovery then I'll ditch it too.
As far as I know they will all be CBS all access
It's not so bad for people outside the US as its on netflix for us

Kiwi, I have netflix but I don't even watch regular TV anymore. I can justify netflix buy not all the other services
Depends on who you ask. Some fans will be happy with the status quo and want to keep seeing the setting and type of story we've come to expect, others will want something new and different. What I ask for is good characters that I can get behind and root for.
I like good characters too and a show that draws me in just never got that with disc
Me too. I keep being told I should watch it, I'd love it, etc., and I might someday but after some of the 15 minute instalments from Love Death + Robots left more impact with regard to characters, story and feel than the pilot of "Discovery" then I don't hold out much hope.
I've given up feeling like I need to defend my opinions about what I like and don't like. I get why some people enjoy it and I also get why its riled others up.
Then only reason i watched the second season of disc , was pike the enterprise and spock wanted to see how they all looked,which is all i enjoyed from it could not tell you much about the episode .
