Throwing around theories this season, there have been a lot of catchwords that arouse different emotions - such as “reset.”

We escaped Control and we also escaped a reset in season 2, but with a recurring theme being “The future is not set,” it brings up an awkward question going into seasons 3’s future:

If the future isn’t set, and DSC makes it back home somehow, won’t that bring about a reset of the future they’re about to spend a lot of time in?

If it’s a horrific and dystopian future, maybe a reset would be a welcomed thing, but would it somehow negate the experiences of the coming season, or should we expect Discovery to remain in the distant future for the duration of its excellent adventures? Either way, party on, DSC! It was a remarkable season.

I have nothing concrete to base this on, but I doubt Discovery will be coming back. Feels more like the intention is to clean the slate and do the rest of the show in the future.

The one and only thing that makes me suspect the ship will return is that Georgiou's Section 31 show is reportedly going to detail the story of why the organisation became an underground black ops outfit by DS9. That pretty much requires her to back in the "present", unless they plan to relay the story via flashbacks or Georgiou learning about the organisation's past as she tries to resurrect it in the far future.

Of course, there could just be some fluff where she somehow gets whisked back through time alone while everyone else remains marooned.

She's going to be in S3, I'm guessing that they find a way back to the present and she takes the opportunity and the Discovery crew stay in the future because of [REASONS].

Most likely, she will be shown getting into an escape pod and ejecting right before Discovery went in. That’s a lot simpler explanation.

If Georgiou stays with the ship in the future, I would assume that would mean she would probably be in at least the same amount of episodes she was in this season. I know Michelle Yeoh just signed on to do the new Avatar films. I know plenty of actors nowadays do film and TV concurrently, but would that have any affect on her ability to be in the show as some sort of "semi-main" character?

The perfect Season 3-ending climax for STD as Georgiou hurls herself into some abyss to save the crew she has come to love.* The Burnham, having "reconciled" with her Mother from Another Continuum,** will cry.

    *But will never admit.

Instead of Short Treks during this off-season, CBS All Access will air a limited, three-camera Trek sitcom shot in front of a live studio audience.

Featuring Michael Burnham, Gabrielle Burnham, Amanda Grayson and Mirror Georgiou, to be titled My Three Moms.

That's fair considering her 'martyr complex'. I always imagined how funning be a coming of age sitcom about jesus called 'My Three Dads' would be, especially the birds and the bees episode.:guffaw:

Well, their home will be somewhere/sometime, just no longer in 23rd century. Last 5 minutes of season 2 finale put a nail on that coffin.

Every indication seems to be they are not coming back. But I'm pretty certain they can come up with some reason if they do.

I don't think it will either. Georgiou, obviously, needs to if she's going to in section 31, which sounds like it will still be in 23rd century based on Kurtzman's interview. But the rest of Disco needn't, and probably shouldn't come back.

At the start of this season, people expressed the same certainty that Discovery wouldn’t do any long-term jump anywhere, and it was sticking around where Spock and fam were at. Incorrect. With this show, anything is possible. But I’d be fine with it staying wherever/whenever it’s headed to.

For all we know, the crew could all come back minus the ship. Successor vessel awaiting them, specifications TBDL?

I don't see how a show set in a post-Federation galaxy necessarily has to equate to "horrible and dystopian". It could just be... different. However, I think that a depiction of a Federation that has somehow lost its way would make for better stories that are both timely and relevant.

That wasn't my point at all. I was saying if Discovery makes it back to the TOS era, and that creates a reset of the future, it would be easier to stomach a reset of a dystopian future that needed changing. But I'm open to all kinds of scenarios. The OP had to do with the reset factor.

I didn’t want A reset in the s2 finale abd wouldn’t want one in s3 or s4 finale.
