Agreed, The original Trilogy characters should've never been added to these new Star Wars movies if the producers didn't have much to serve those characters. Return of the Jedi was nice closing chapter to those characters; they deserved that ending of hope... but JJ Abrams had other plans. He made those characters punching bags so the new characters can look better. Yeah, JJ loves Star Wars until it has to service his own characters. I'm praying Lando's wild laugh is not a precursor of him hyperdriving into a star destroyer or the Millennium Falcon blowing up in a senseless death to serve Rey, Finn, or Poe or getting stabbed in the back by Ren or crashing on a world where he would stranded for rest of his life or... blasted out into space where he could use the force...True. The biggest hooks in this teaser were not the new characters, but Lando and Leia.
You just know most of the conversation until the next trailer will be how will Leia be used in E9, if she dies, etc. (or will Disney shamelessly play on longtime fans' emotions regarding Fisher's death)., which takes all of the attention away from the new characters.
But just imagine the scene
Palpatine: I know of your parents, Rey.
Rey: Kylo Ren told me about my parents. They were drunk lowlifes on Jakku who traded me for drinking money.
Palpatine: There is more to that story. Your father is descended from Fred Skywalker.
Rey: Who?
Palpatine: The brother of Shmi Skywalker.
Rey: Who?
Palpatine: Mother of Anakin Skywalker.
Rey: Who?
Palpatine: Luke Skywalker's father!
Rey: I thought that was Darth Vader?
Palpatine: They're the same person!
Rey: Huh. So what does this have to do with my parents?
Palpatine: Your great-grandfather is Anakin Skywalker - Darth Vader's - cousin.
Rey: So, I share a blood relation with Luke...
Palpatine: Yes.
Rey: And Kylo Ren is my distant cousin.
Palpatine: Exactly.
Rey: So aside from making it weirder that Kylo Ren seems to have a thing for me, what does knowing this really accomplish?
Palpatine: Absolutely nothing.
Rey: Right. I feel I could have been having a lightsabre fight in the time this conversation took.
Palpatine: This conversation had to happen.
Absolutely riveting stuff. I will be pissed off if this scene isn't in the movie.
LOL!!! Awesome!!! That's the character of the "Mary Sue" Rey to a T. I would look forward to that scene.
