I have just got off the phone after speaking to my friend about that this episode of GoT. I now wonder how someone can watch 7 seasons of GoT and end up with the theories she has

She believes that all the Starks can resurrect after being killed because they have Targaryen blood!!! She says that Bran died when he fell of the tower but was resurrected. Then Ned had his head chopped off and was secretly resurrected and will turn up this season. Arya died when The Waif stabbed her but was resurrected. She believes that Jon came back to life because he was a Targaryem not because Melisandre’s spells.

I said what about Beric Dondarrion? She said he must have Targaryen blood as well. I said why wasn’t Rhaegar or Viserys resurrected and she reckons that they probably did not have enough Targaryen blood!!!

She also said she was annoyed that they did not show Sam’s arrival back at Winterfell this season. I said that was because he returned to Winterfell last season. She said he didn’t. I said Sam told Bran about Rhaegar’s marriage annulment and his marriage to Lyanna. My friend insisted this did not take part at Winterfell, that Sam and Bran must have meet up somewhere else.

There are two different symbols--the symbols from the first episode is the circle with the line through the middle. The spiral symbol comes later (season 2 or 3?) and is also seen during the creation of the Night King and both symbols were seen in the cave with the drawings by the Children of the Forest last season.

After last night's episode I am convinced that the final battle will be between Dany and Jon, perhaps with Jamie playing a key role and both Jon and Dany dead. (Just speculation of course, because George won't tell me anything.)

I don't think people have really thought about how little time we have left in relation to the amount of story we have left to be revealed to us.

Next episode will likely be focused on Jaime being accosted for the crimes he's committed against Dany's family and ultimately being allied with her, Jon, and the Army of the Living; Episode 3 is the Battle of Winterfell with the Army of the Living versus the White Walkers; Episodes 4 and 5 will likely be focused on dealing with Cersei; and Episode 6 will likely deal with wrapping up the series.

There's literally no time for intrigue surrounding Jon's true parentage and the question of whether or not he is a contender for the Iron Throne or if it it will create conflict between him and Dany, and it wouldn't even be in character for Jon to fight against Dany even if there were the time to deal with that kind of storyline.

Holy crap, George Lucas visited the Game of Thrones set; that is freaking amazing.

Still don't see the point of The Hound/Gendry/Arya scene, though.

^^^ Don’t you see the weapon that Arya asked Gendry to make her to be of any importance? Or The Hound getting a dragon glass axe?

HBO claims it was a record setting night. The season eight premiere of "Game of Thrones" brought in a series record 17.4 million viewers on Sunday night, according to HBO. 11.8 were LIVE. That was UP from 16.9 for the season 7 finale.

I don't understand why Edd did not immediately recognize Tormund at the last Hearth ? They fought together at Hardhome and also when retaking Castle Black from Alliser Thorne's men.

Arya and the Hound wandered the wilderness for a season and a half, you don't think they should have a moment to snarkily pay their respects and show him that he's no longer on her list? They'll probably wind up fighting side by side again when the Army of the Dead comes, so they wanted to get the awkward reunion out of the way before then.

And Arya and Gendry was all about making her new dragonglass spear / detachable fighting club and mirroring the last time we saw them together in Season Two, along with similar dialogue. The whole episode was full of callbacks to the past like that to show you haw far everyone has come.

He did recognize him. Edd was just terrified after seeing the Umber kid and assumed Tormund had been changed into a Wight as well because of his bright blue eyes.

Dragonglass doesn't kill the White Walkers, just the wights. The White Walkers are invulnerable to fire, which they can extinguish. And the weapons of the White Walkers shatter all swords but those made of Valyrian steel. So although the Unsullied and the Dothraki and the dragons will tear through hundreds or thousands of the wights, the White Walkers will break up defenses so that the massively superior numbers of the wights will swamp the Unsullied and the Dothraki. The battle will hinge on the ability of the Valyrian steel wielders to break up the White Walker spearheading an attack, eventually getting the Night King himself. The Valyrian steel holders are Jon, Sam, Brienne, Jaime and Arya, whose Valyrian steel dagger is to be mounted as a spear head.

Something that didn't happen was walling shut the crypt so none of the dead Starks raised could attack from within.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Sam killed a White Walker (S03E08) with a dragonglass dagger he discovered at the Fists.
