The Gorn Reborn

It would have been great to have seen Gorn ambassadors working with the Federation in some way, though. Bonus points if the Gorn, like the Federation, occasionally send starship captains to act as diplomats, and Kirk has to have an awkward meeting with the captain from Arena.

Maybe this will work in a pinch ;)

The Gorn is also seen standing behind Deela the Orion (holding a beverage as he does above) as she finishes her dance. Staged as the shot is, I can imagine him thinking, "Well, at least she's green." :shifty:

Great post, but . . . Devna. There's only one Deela.

I seem to recall some memo or document in the Roddenberry papers at UCLA that suggests re-using the Gorn and a "no" to the idea. I'll have to try to find it again.

Thanks @Maurice I'll be looking forward to that.

I thought I read somewhere the suit was damaged or falling apart by the time the episode was done and I can't swear to it but I thought I used to see damage in the arm area as if it was torn but I think the remaster people covered it up. Again I may be wrong on both of these points.

He also provided the opening credits narration for "The Incredible Hulk" TV series. "Dr. David Banner, physician, scientist, a man searching for the hidden strength all people have..." The growls and bellows of the Hulk, at least in the earlier seasons were also his.

Every episode from the pilot until the last two episodes of the second season. Sadly, he passed away at that time, and the role went to Charles Napier. I've long thought it brilliant that the Hulk's vocalizations were all recorded to match, and not a bunch of stock grunts and snarls.

But, yes, he really shined as a voice artist...which makes his nearly mute role of Lurch all the more ironic.

Lurch was meant to be completely mute. His dialog, from the iconic "You rang?" to his greeting to the mayor, "I'll take your hat." to his reply to Morticia of "I can't!" when she tells him he can stop dancing are all a result of his ad-libbing that first "You rang?" in front of the producers while filming his first scene for the pilot. The producers, and the director, thought that voice giving forth with that question was hilarious, and all of Lurch's future dialog was scripted in as a result.

If I recall correctly, Wah Chang fabricated the Gorn out of Latex, which tends to deteriorate after time passes.

Shatner could probably still beat the Gorn!

You know, I'll bet he could! For being almost 90, Shatner is still such an active, functional old man who clearly knows how to have fun. The coolest thing about Mr. Shatner is that he knows he's become a parody of his former self, but he embraces it, has fun with it. So he's not afraid to laugh at himself along with the rest of us. He took the idea of being a bloated, elderly, hammy Kirk and he ran with it for all the fun it's worth.

I’m much younger than he is, but he looks like he could whoop me in a fight, too.
