In TOS we saw numerous aliens make repeated appearances, but the Gorn was one and done. Considering the expense of manufacturing those costumes (I think Justman said he kept 2 Gorns in his office), I don’t quite understand why they weren’t utilized again. Which episode(s) do you think the Gorn could have been inserted into, even if it was just a background alien?

Two of them hanging out in the briefing room of Journey to Babel eating cubes and talking with other delegates would have been fantastic.

I assumed after Arena that the Gorn basically just went back to their own space and decided the Federation weren't enemies, but they didn't want anything to do with them either.

It would have been great to have seen Gorn ambassadors working with the Federation in some way, though. Bonus points if the Gorn, like the Federation, occasionally send starship captains to act as diplomats, and Kirk has to have an awkward meeting with the captain from Arena.

Had the show continued beyond three seasons, who knows, maybe the Gorn would have appeared again. They do show up in the animated series. Other than Enterprise, it's too bad none of the later shows brought them back. I like to think that's because the Gorn weren't interested in relations with the Federation, like Starflight says two posts up.

And HOLY CRAP! Ted Cassidy did the voice of the Gorn captain? How did I miss that all these years? :censored:, what a noob I am :brickwall:

He was also the voice of Balok’s puppet, in addition to numerous cartoon characters like The Thing from Fantastic Four, Frankenstein Jr., etc.

He had a job as a radio announcer in Dallas, Texas during the early 60s. I occasionally wonder if he was working on November 22, 1963 when a certain presidential motorcade drove through the city. Can you imagine his voice like that of some "dark g*d" announcing that President Kennedy had been shot?!

He also provided the opening credits narration for "The Incredible Hulk" TV series. "Dr. David Banner, physician, scientist, a man searching for the hidden strength all people have..." The growls and bellows of the Hulk, at least in the earlier seasons were also his.

But, yes, he really shined as a voice artist...which makes his nearly mute role of Lurch all the more ironic.

    Marsden is very sad.
Ted Cassidy was great. I wish he could have been in more episodes.

He was in Roddenberry's 1973 Genesis II pilot. I guess would have at least been considered as a regular cast member if it had been picked up as a series.

I would have liked some confirmation of Gorn intervention in The Apple to be honest! Vaal has a definite Gorn style of resemblance! ;)
