Not sure if this is the place to put this, but I really think that - if the Pike show is a go and a big hit - the chances of Discovery getting a fourth season are pretty low. By that point they're going to have several other Trek series in production - series which likely won't have the same production/arc issues Discovery has had due to the revolving door of showrunners. They can find some sort of contrivance to bring the fan favorites "home" and distribute them in the Pike show and Section 31 show as needed. But Michael's story in particular is only going to have three chapters, and a fixed ending. Indeed, the jump to the future (something which seemingly has been planned at least since Kurtzman took over) could be seen as an attempt to shake up the show and attempt to transport the characters (who are seen as the bright spot) into a new setting where they can be more freeform with storytelling.
I think it is a little early to make these kinds of claims, we really don't know what Michelle Paradise will bring to the table.
It also enables them to have a life outside of the set as well.Absolutely. 15 episodes over one-and-a-half year, with continuous character development and arcs is simply a completely different beast than 25 episodes every year with static characters that have a single "spotlight"-episode once in a while.
For actors - modern television really is the goal in itself, instead of "just" being a steady paycheck. Hell, it even leaves them enough time to take on other roles, gues appearences in other shows or movie roles as well. Something that was utterly impossible with a television schedule in the 90s.

Yeah, it was stated the show wouldn't get a 2nd season. Then it wouldn't get a 3rd. And I'm sure that after the next renewal, it will never get a 5th season. Some people just never give up with wanting this show to go away.
Plus the advantage of having tighter scripts with less temptation to add filler in each season.
Romjjin-Stamos is mostly known for The Librarians which was solid and had a fair run but it never really hit the big time.
Yeah, it's tough to keep up with Hollywood marriages and divorcesI think it is just Romijn now.

Mount is mostly known for Inhumans were he was great but the whole premise of the show just didnt work which was no fault of his.

What many do not realise is that most actors would kill for a long term gig like NCIS or Big Bang Theory, yet will never get it however much they may deserve it, others are offered the parts but turn them down never realising what they would become until it is too late.
Yeah, it's tough to keep up with Hollywood marriages and divorces![]()
I think its fair to say that the original plan for Discovery back in the beginning is far removed from what we have now both in tone and delivery, due to the various changes that occurred in production and the relatively poor response to S1.Not sure if this is the place to put this, but I really think that - if the Pike show is a go and a big hit - the chances of Discovery getting a fourth season are pretty low. Oh I remember her even from that Friends episode:Mount was mostly known for Hell on Wheels, which ran for 5 seasons. Rebecca Romijn hasn't been Stamos for a decade, and has been regularly employed in various series since she broke big as the first and best) Mystique from the X-man Films.
Wouldn't know that from Discovery.

Like I said earlier you lot tend to obsess... err I mean keep up with this sort of thing more than I do.She's been married to Jerry O'Connell for a number of years.
Yeah. Other Trek shows had major retools as well - DS9's "Way of the Warriour" was essentialy an entire second pilot episode, ENT's Xindi-arc changed up the entire series, and even VOY kinda' retooled with "Basics I&II" to a darker tone.
But if they actually do this - go into the future to stay there - holy shit would that be an unprecedented re-vamp! I don't think I like that - that's akin to bringing the Voyager home, or completely putting the DS9-crew on a starship in the middle of the series. A complete admission they weren't able to handle the original concept.
And I think that would be just a shame. I think the first half of season 2 really showed the show CAN work as intended! They just don't have to go all-in on everything - a simple over-arching mystery and character arcs would have been completely sufficient.I don't want them to scrap the prequel concept entirely! I just wanted them to get a bit of a better grasp at it! Which they even did! Argh.

That Jerry Connell has pulled well since his time in Sliders.I will always remember her as Romijn-Stamos. Saying just "Romijn" always seemed weird to me.

Oh, and one random aside, and a big negative - Linus wasn't part of the group who announced they were sticking with Michael till the end!

Perhaps these things had to happen to ensure that any future shows that come after will be all the better for the lessons learned.
Season Two of Discovery has seen a marked improvement over Season One and I expect that upward curve to continue into Season Three.
Less talk about being holier than thou with more action to back it up and the show is all the better for it.
I have higher expectations for the third season because it will be the first time we'll be able to see an arc completely fleshed out on Discovery without having to deal with the dregs of someone who has since been fired.
