I'd certainly be able to impress a lot of rennaissance era people with 21st century tech too If I were able to travel back in time with what I have access to as well.

I think they made it pretty plain in the S2 premiere what they always meant to explore:

"Space. The final frontier. Above us. Around us. Within us. We have always looked to the stars to discover who we are. A thousand centuries ago in Africa, the /Xam Abathwa tribe gathered to share a story. The tale of a girl who dug her hands in the wood ash and threw it into the sky to create the Milky Way. And hidden there, a secret buried among the eternal stars, was a message. An enormous letter in a bottle made of space and time, visible only to those whose hearts were open enough to receive it. All my life. When I first heard the story of the girl who made the stars, I wasn't ready to understand. I still don't know if I am."

Edited to add: Got the quote wrong, have since included it in its entirety.

So I have a question for those in the know.

Did Gene (or even RHW) originally pitch Andromeda as a Trek spinoff? I know next to nothing about it. I think I watched one-half of a random first season (original airing) episode.

All I know is it's about a not-Federation going kaput and a lone not-Starfleet ship equipped with its own super AI trying to put the galaxy back together.

So, given what we saw in Calypso and what the implied cliffhanger is going to be, I can't help but wonder if season 3 is going to be Star Trek does the Andromeda story.

It is. I liked that show back in the day. Should have had more dinos though.

I watched it when it was netflix and really liked it. I felt it had a lot of potential, and I still want to know how that pirate ship got dumped in the desert. Also, yes it needed more Dinosaurs. One of the aspects I liked most was how the show runners were free to make up Dinosaurs and avoid the usual suspects of the T-rex, and Velociraptor. No doubt we'll see another show like it some day.

yeah I thought so too

Wait... based on Calypso's V'Draysh and what I think is happening with the Quantum Leap into the future, what if Season 3 is basically the concept of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, but in Star Trek?

I really don't think Season 3 will involve Craft's time - particularly after last night's episode.

That said, just because the V'draysh are at war with Craft's people doesn't make it dystopian. For all we know he's part of some far future Maquis or a human population absorbed by The Dominion or something.

MY next failed prediction: Discovery crew will be stranded in the future on Terra Nova when a confused Western Union manager rides up in the rain, confirms that one of them is Michael Burnham and gives them a parcel and discusses the office wager on if they'd be there.

Great Scott!! That's heavy!!
