I'm not sure how I would feel about a Pike series. Feels like they might take something special (Mount, Peck) and run it into the ground.
I'd have worried about that before, but I've really been impressed with how they have handled his character. I may be nervous about some aspects still, but they do seem to realize how important a symbol he's been and have treated him accordingly.

And would they please give Nilsson some dialog??
That would be nice, especially after the bizarrely meta-reference to her role!

Watching Discovery use the spore drive NEVER gets old. Hands down the best 'super FTL drive' effect trek has ever done.
I too love the effect. There's something about the weight of it that really conveys the motion well, although I think the best use of it so far was when they used the ship as a doorstop. I'm not sure it's my favorite though. That probably goes to the Coaxial Warp effect. Such a shame that one went into the heap of forgotten tech.

We haven't heard anything about cast changes for season 3. So assuming there are no changes to the main cast then Spock, Georgiou and Po have to get out of Discovery before it goes into future but Tyler and Culber have to decide to stay. They have said that Michelle Yeoh will be back for 3rd season, so maybe Georgiou does stay.

Much more of a setup episode than I was expecting, but still really good. If next season really does follow Michael and the Discovery crew into the distant future, then I think that could be a really fun idea. Especially if it means getting to learn about or interact with a future Starfleet.

So I've had an epically shitty week and today was no different. I got home really late and was planning on going straight to bed. But my impatience got the better of me.

I'm so glad it did.

See, this is exactly what this show excels with: its character and heart. It kept the silly fanta-skiffy to a minimum and instead allowed this wonderfully assembled cast shine. It may have really just been a hodgepodge of character moments stitched together, but they were all fantastic character moments. I completely lost it three or four times.

It was perfectly cathartic.

Maybe Nilsson is the Morn of Discovery.
I think it would be hilarious if he just kept the beard/civilian clothing thing going the entire season while everyone else is wearing uniforms.
Spock's overly literal. Technically Starfleet Command never had the chance to formally release him from the psychiatric facility and he's still technically a patient. Plus, no one aboard Discovery formally authorized him to wear a Discovery uniform.

Maybe Dr. Piper is Discovery's mysterious CMO is Dr. Piper and his transfer to the Enterprise lasts until 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'.

Discovery's chief engineer must be Keenser. He's actually in a lot of scenes, it's just below the camera's field of vision.
Maybe, combining your two theories a little, the Discovery's chief engineer has been Montgomery Scott this whole time and now he's on the Enterprise. Lorca did do a scottish accent when he was asked to impersonate the chief engineer..

I’m a bit confused as to why they couldn’t Destroy the Discovery. So their shields are up. Just keep firing.
Do shields make them invincible now? Must be before they had prefix codes.

The one-time where shield percentages would have made dramatic sense.

The Sphere Data was protecting itself. Sure they could keep firing, but pretty soon the ship's going to fire back. Or warp the heck out of there. I think they gave it pause so they could come up with strategy.

Also, it's likely that the ship can change its prefix code.

True but they didn’t even address it. Also, the Enterprise should easily destroy the Discovery. It is the top dog after all.

Scotty can't be chief engineer of Discovery because of TNG Relics--
PICARD: Constitution class.
SCOTT: Aye. You're familiar with them?
PICARD: There's one in the Fleet museum, but then of course, this is your Enterprise?
SCOTT: I actually served on two. This was the first. She was also the first ship I ever served on as Chief Engineer. You know, I served aboard eleven ships. Freighters, cruisers, starships, but this is the only one I think of. The only one I miss.
