I'm aware of what YT takedown is, thanks.

What was under discussion was a far-fetched conspiracy theory about CBS unfairly targeting fringe groups — one that I'm now through discussing, unless a journalistic citation is provided.

Whatcha gettin so bent outta a shape for?
It's been talked about on the netz for a little over a month now and I did say it's not just CBS specifically.
There's apparently several third party's who are making the requests as well, it's not like I was pointing out some kind of backwater conspiracy.

It is happening, but it may just be coincidence that the Trek "Ragers" are some of the targeted ones.

They are the ones claiming it's purposeful.

I'm sure they are being targeted. They are constantly pissing on CBS' product, so CBS is using the tools available to them to make the complainers lives a bit more difficult.

Well, I don't see where you were getting the idea that it was a conspiracy theory. It was mentioned that those channels were being targeted - and they ARE - I was just pointing out that it wasn't ONLY those channels and it's part of a wider issue. If you were already aware of the wider issue, I don't understand why you were questioning that fact in the first place.

When you have tools available that make you money (the lost revenue during any dispute always goes to the claimant regardless of outcome) for virtually no effort, there is absolutely no reason to limit it solely to specific targets. They're casting a wide net and always have. I've even been caught in it myself and I'm a nobody on youtube.

I obviously was't questioning that YT takedowns occur.
And yet you quoted my post that was talking entirely about YT takedowns and said it was just an "alleged" notion, so... There's also no substantial distinction between how you described it (CBS unfairly targeting their channels) and what I described (which absolutely is happening and has been for several years), yet you call one a far-fetched conspiracy theory and the other "obviously" true. I would understand if you were aware of takedowns initially but didn't realize the scope of the problem and how it applied to them. There would be no shame in admitting that.

Well, you quoted a person talking about only a specific kind of alleged take down, and you referred to it as "that" being not a good thing, so I naturally assumed that "that"meant what the person was talking about, not YT takedowns in general. Again, there's no substantiation for the claim, only one video, as indicated by the poster who spread the rumor in the first place. Literally nothing to get outraged about since there's no substantiation for the original claim. Anyway, I'm done on this, pending reliable info.

Right, again, what I was talking about and what you are talking about is the very same. In that video, he is talking about copyright strikes. "Giant corporations flexing their muscles on little youtubers". He claims he was hit with a copyright strike, his channel lost privileges for a few months, he had to file a dispute to get it back, it happened to other channels and they lost income in the meantime. That isn't a "rumor", it's exactly what has been happening to hundreds if not thousands of similar channels for years by CBS and any other entities who submit blanket claims, and there is absolutely no reason to doubt the experience he describes. It's a well-documented issue and certainly something to be enraged about for the many whom it affects.

It's become clear that you really were not aware of the scope of the issue, and that's fine, but it might have helped if you'd closely read the link I gave you instead of assuming it said nothing more substantial than "YouTube takedowns are a thing that happen sometimes when warranted".

I can't speak for Counterpart, but I'm laughing over the notion there is an 'issue' in the first place.

I've always found the whole belief that YouTubers should have some kind of carte blanche access to any intellectual property they see fit to be pretty fucking ridiculous.

You'd do well to research fair use laws. Or simply consider the fact that Memory Alpha, IMDB, any film review or video essay, and TrekBBS caption and avatar contents could all come under fire for the same reason without them.

Not to mention, what was under discussion in the first place were allegations of behavior so far out on the fringe that apparently only one video on the entire Internet was discussing it. Hardly worth discussion, yet here we are....

At the interest of saving time I don't have to hunt one down, pretend I've inserted an Inigo Montoya meme here.

As a rule, the internet's interpretation of "fair use" is wrong.

I've stated before that Steve Shives is one of the few Trek vloggers I like. I always find his Janeway takes to be really entertaining, even if I don't always agree with them. He pretty much sticks to just using screen caps, but none the less should the choose to, Paramount or CBS or even Kate would all be within their right to tell him to take it down.

And any slippy slope to be had here, is a letter of the law/spirit of the law argument.
