Captain Pike spin off petition

A more traditional “Trek” show with Mount as Pike on the Big E is, to a degree, what i think Trek is sorely lacking. Look at people’s love for The Orville, a very “safe”, Trek-like series with some stunning moments, fun and exciting characters and still with a lot to say. It’s successful among genre fans because there is absolutely a - not necessarily a “need”, but certainly a wish for stuff that evokes that style. And with a more trad Trek show on, Discovery would be freed up to be even more radical by comparison (see Voyager and DS9, a trad “ship” show alongside a more radical Trek).

They did add an episode to the season 2 of Discovery. The last episode of the season could be a backdoor pilot for the Pike/Enterprise series.

If they do make it into a series then what should it be called?

I'm not sure if the ratings for The Orville means it's a "success". Yes, there are some Trek fans who prefer it over Discovery, but it's definitely not the majority.

I think a more stand-alone approach could work but with continuing character arcs. Each season doesn't need to be 1 story like Discovery, but there could be things happening in the background that continue week to week. Every once in a while, these ongoing plots can be the focus of an episode or a 2-parter. That's how I would format a Pike series and it would be different than Discovery's format allowing each show to be unique. I wouldn't want a show as stand alone as TOS.

Plus after what happened to Pike in Through the Valley of Shadows, it would be interesting to see how it affects him moving forward. He's leaving Discovery at a crucial development point for his character.

Signed the petition just as a way of registering interest, in case anyone with the power to make the show ever sees it.

As for the episodic vs serialised debate, I really hope they would lean towards episodic. I like the idea of standalone episodic plots, but with ongoing character development, with past events being referred back to when appropriate.

Anson Mount also nailed this scene from New Eden. That episode was a fantastic reminder of Star Trek at its best and I would love to see more like this, but, not just within a Pike-led series. I want Discovery to do more like this as well.

Exactly, agreed. And I think that is what could set it apart from Discovery as a whole.

I think Mount is absolutely invested in the character and a Pike / Enterprise show is going to happen if it isn't already at least in production. His interactions on Twitter, the coy way some of the questions about a series have been handled and the fact the E bridge set has been built are all good indicators. We will know soon enough....but I think it is safe to say that the CBSAA gamble on trek is paying off. Glad TREK is back.

Yeah friends. I´m with you in all the points you put in repply to this thread.
I had a conversation with many Trek fans here in Brasil, and they think the same as us. A show with Pike and Spock as the main characters, supported by number one (not the inverse) would be to much cool. At least, this is the general expectation.

At the other side, Discovery would go his own show, route, and story telling with big arcs.

Thinking about it this would take Star Trek completely full circle. This was what Gene Roddenberry originally pitched.

Insted of a series how about 2 or 3 a year 90min TV movies? Maybe done as 2x50min so they're making episodes not feature films

Ya know....the Picard series could be the Pike / Spock series. In the new timeline, the accident could have caused Pike to lose most of his hair, and....

....the series could be called Star Trek: Pikard

:whistle::p:lol:

Mount seems to be "liking" a lot of tweets along these lines. Maybe he's just taking them as praise of his fine work, but he's certainly not expressing disinterest in the possibility.
He's a working actor and he liked playing the character, so why wouldn't he support a fan based movement that effectively wants to get him more acting work playing a character he likes?

That said, I doubt any actual production has been started (beyond perhaps considering the possibility) as they already have a number of new Star Trek projects:

- The Picard series which is casting and about to start actual production and has a pilot script.

- The Michelle Yeoh 'Section 31' series still in pre-production and close to the pilot scrip[t stage.

- Two animated Star Trek series in pre-production (one for CBSAA and one for Nickelodeon).

Plus Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery and more 'Short Treks' planned.

So yeah, it's not like they don't already have a lot on their plate.

I'm curious as to whether such online petitions have ever made a tangible difference with TV/movie production companies.
