What Would you Have Done Different? (Deep Space 9...9...9!)

only two things I would have changed.

I would not have killed off Jadzia. Have Starfleet force her to transfer because of her marriage to Worf and the complications it brought in the episode “Change of Heart”. Have her show up as the XO of another ship in the final episode.

I also wouldn’t have sent Sisko to live with the prophets. Let him live happily ever after with Cassidy.

A forced transfer? That seems a bit harsh of Starfleet! "Congratulations on this happy occassion! Report to the Lexington at 0900 tomorrow. Your spouse can't go with you."

But if you go to the episode I mentioned, Worf has to choose between saving Jadzia and saving a double agent. He chooses Jadzia while the Federation spy dies. Worf is reprimanded and Sisko mentions that it would likely prevent him from getting a command of his own one day.

Sisko orders that the two are never to be put on a mission together again. But in my scenario, Starfleet orders them to separate deployments altogether.

I'm surprised Worf wasn't demoted for that.

Yes, I remember the episode well. Worf and Dax are not to be put on a mission together. But most of the time they aren't on missions where they are independent of a mission commander anyway. How many episodes have them working together when one or the other of them is the mission commander? In Soldiers of the Empire, Martok is their CO. In early season 6 when they're away from DS9, Sisko is being chief of staff and Dax commands the Defiant, but Worf is away on the Rotarran. They're only separated a few weeks at a time.

I think the reason he wasn't demoted or officially reprimanded was due to the clandestine nature of the assignment. If any spies got wind of any records, it wouldn't really compromise Starfleet's assests of spies in Cardassian space. A reprimand on an officer widely known in the fleet might raise questions, and it could jeopardize Starfleet's spy network in the middle of a grueling war.

Keep Michael Piller executive producer in charge.

Have a lot less of the Pah-Wraiths if have them at all, have more better, stronger material for Sisko's role as the Emissary. Probably also somehow tie or relate more the Prophets with the Dominion, not too much direct connection but at least more awareness of the other.

Have more Bajoran planetary/political/religious characters rather than just good Shakaar (though keep him around if he is still the leader) and bad Winn.

Go with the original idea that the Dominion were a kind of evil Federation, quite diverse with many species with different strengths contributing, albeit dominated by the Founders, rather than just three aliens Founders, Vorta and Jem'Hadar (and eventually the Cardassians and Breen).

Have more Klingon and Vorta leader characters than just Martok and Weyoun.

Have Nog have some more doubts about Starfleet, especially after his injury.

Have Worf become a lot less aggressive or standoff-ish with more of the characters and have some more indications of what the rest of the Enterprise crew is doing, try to have more tie-ins and crossovers even if most of the other cast doesn't appear.

Make Eddington much less of a madman and not so much the leader of the Maquis.

I'd have like a few Ferengi marauders turn up in the last battle in What You Left Behind thanks to Rom.

Loved the show so much there's not much I would have changed.
Except...
-They could have dispensed with the annual Ferengi story. They really dragged the plot down, especially in the middle of the war. I mean, we really needed a Quark in drag show while the fate of the galaxy is at stake?
-If Terry Farrell didn't want to come back, then a new Dax shouldn't have showed up until late in the last season as a supporting character. Having to sidestep the war to shoehorn in Ezri exposition stories also dragged the plot IMHO.
-Once, just once, I wish Sisko could have said "Spenssah!". I don't know in what context this might have happened, I just wish it had.
-While we're on the subject, as much as I liked Barry Jenner, I wish the rumors of the day had been true and that Robert Urich had been cast as Admiral Ross. Urich and Brooks had great chemistry and it would have been real cool to see them playing different characters.
-More TNG crossover (I know I'm not alone here) With Troi and Barclay, Voy had more crossover with TNG than DS9 did- and Voy was on THE FREAKIN' OTHER SIDE OF THE GALAXY!
That's pretty much it for me, and I know I'm nitpicking. It's just such a great show.

It would have been interesting to have Weyoun 6 around longer. And interesting to see reprecussions to Weyoun 7 for ordering the Jem Hadar to fire on a runabout they knew to contain a Changling.
