How about everyone celebrating at the end of "Independence Day." The world is in shambles and who knows how many people have died and many people we see in the celebration had people they kn ow die yet it's all one big happy ending. Jason

But Earth triumphed so some celebration is what I'd expect. Pity they came back they needed another ass whooping.
I got another. In "Star Trek" cupcake the bully guy who beats up Kirk waits 3 years to make a comeback quip by calling him, cupcake after catching him after they try and arrest Kirk. Jason
It has likely been mentioned already, but the panty raid from Revenge of the Nerds. When I was a teen, I thought that was the coolest thing, but as an older and (hopefully) more socially aware adult, I can see it for the sexual assault that it is. Same goes for Lewis deceiving Betty in the Moon room.
The panty raid never bothered me in the context of a raunchy comedy but I never liked the Moon room, rape. I knew that was wrong even when I was a kid. One thing that doesn't get talked about much but what about the tar and feather scene where the jocks humiliate the nerds. Also the jocks are pretty racist to Bernie Casey and his group. Then the nerds are selling naked pitches of the girls with their pies. It's a movie that has some really big raunch even for raunchy comedies. Jason
The racism scene may be the only part that plays out like it's supposed to. The jocks are immediately shown to be in the wrong for their racism. The "pie" stunt, the rape scene in the Moon room, and the panty raids are all shown as justified by the nerds, though, that the women are the ones who get punished for what the jocks do to the nerds, and also because the women won't see the nerds as valid sexual partners (e.g., they're "nice guys"). That's why they stick out as horrible to me.
I don't know. The women cheerleaders were kind of all in with the jocks. They set up the two nerds for the tar and featering. They were on the same coucil with the head jock and were part of the same revenge planning. Plus they were on the truck where everyone moons them. Everyone in the movie except Casey and the dean do some bad stuff. Which is kind of shock. College deans are famous for being assholes in these kinds of movies. This time John Goodman gets to be the authority figure who is the asshole. While the nerds are wrong in real life you can see how they are supported in movie logic. Nerds are used to being picked on and treated like crap and now they are able to turn the tables on their abusers. Not to mention ordinary people. The nerds are seen as unique individuals. The jocks and girls are all sort of one big group of normal everyday Americans in that time. They represented what normal was suppose to look like. Nerds are shown to be unique but also with the same normal desires of your regular everyday person. Granted in 1980's that also meant some not so enlightened views on sexual behavior. All through the lense of a comedy that also wants to shock you by doing some edgy stuff. I think the late 70's and early 80's was when even showing sex stuff in movies outside of a porno or B movie/exploitation film was just starting to be okay. You could be more graphic and thus people ran with it because they knew people weren't use to seeing that stuff in regular films. Jason
Dances With Wolves: Dunbar's journey to the frontier is facilitated by his commanding officer being a laudanum or morphine addict. It's not apparent at first, and I've had to rewatch it many times, but the man who signs his papers and later kills himself has lots of little bottles all over his desk, if you notice carefully while he's posting Dunbar to Fort Sedgwik. He's an opiate addict, common at the time, quite possibly sent out west because he became one during the war, incompetent AND incontinent, and was given a useless desk job that he still mishandled. In some ways he's like Dunbar. Perhaps he too wanted to see the frontier and escape the horrors of the war. so he probbly knew Sedgwick's officers weren't reporting back, and that he was sending Timmons and Dunbar on a suicidal fool's errand, but he did it anyway, and then killed himself without telling anyone where Dunbar was heading. When Timmons died, Dunbar was completely isolated from his former world and no one knew what happened to him. I always got part of that, just hadn't realized the whole laudanum thing.
It isn't touched on in the film, but supposedly in the original novel (I haven't read it) Dunbar's commanding officer was also gay, and had that hanging over him as well. Whatever all was involved, that damned Sword of Damocles is sharp when it falls.
It's interesting, I've always got the impression that, in the UK at least, VJ day was far more subdued than VE day was.
Out of all the stuff people have talked about with "16 Candles" you also have the moment were Anthony Micheal Hall in encased in a glass table I think it was. The guy could have died from a lack of oxygen from that situation. Jason
I wonder if that's part of why they cancelled the Revenge of the Nerds remake in 2006 after shooting it for 2 weeks.
The ending of Small Soldiers bothers me in that the CEO of the company that causes all the mess basically gives everyone a cheque and all is right with the world, basically buying everyone's silence on the chaos that happens in that movie, and it's a fun movie but looking back at it now it just doesn't sit well with me how it ends.
They mocked and humiliated her because she had a stick up her ass. She was a stickler for regulations and military protocol in an environment where those things took a back seat to saving lives. It was only after she berated Pierce for allowing officers and enlisted men alike to address him as "Hawkeye" that he mentioned finding her attractive and wanting to go to bed with her -- probably just to provoke her. Besides, hey, it was the Seventies, man!
I doubt it. 2006 might seem like it's not that long ago but it is from where we are in 2019. I think that was even the year of "Superbad" so raunchy stuff was still in. Also a remake would make plenty of alterations to make it feel current to the people of 2006. 80's stuff was already dated back then it's just nobody really wasted to much time complaining about decade old movies. I feel like that was stuff you noticed and knew was a very 80's thing but then just didn't think beyond that because it wasn't the 80's anymore. Jason
