That didn't stop them from basically redoing the Temporal Cold War in Discovery, which was the last popular of Enterprise's stories. I would argue this time crystal business makes even less sense than the Temporal Cold War did.
Also, people can love the character/actor and hate the material they are in. Most Doctor Who fans don't think much of the 1996 movie, but they were all cheering when McGann came back for the 50th anniversary short (and many still think he should have been the Time War Doctor who regenerates into Eccleston).
I have to admit, I've completely missed those episodes.

The Temporal Cold War hasn't featured in DSC at all.
Having watched both the Temporal Cold War episodes and Discovery, it's my belief that they did, and a lot of other people I talk with as well.
We have people fighting across time against a futuristic enemy. It's the same concept in all but name.
And we're the ones paying the CBS All-Access subscriptions... And the same complaints I have about the Temporal Cold War apply to this Control War business.
That's like saying the Coalition of Planets doesn't feature in Discovery at all. It's called the Federation. Same idea, new name.

Fair enough, I seem to remember a lot of fighting in those episodes though. And for that matter, this "hot" war in Discovery can't be that hot if Julian Bashir hadn't even heard of it.
The two plots are nothing alike.
I guess we'll just have to disagree on that. For what it's worth, other people I've talked with IRL feel the same as me.
If you know Star Wars, I feel it's along the same lines as Jacen Solo and Kylo Ren being way too similar and feeling like it's a rehash.

Common sense says "Hell no!" but modern Trek does seem quite concerned with referencing Enterprise. Who knows.
What’s the gist of this idea? I never made it all the way through ENT.
My understanding is Braga picked up on the fan theory - which existed at the time the show was on the air - and thought it was a good idea. It wasn't really their plan at the time Future Guy was conceived though.
There was an evil figure called "Future Guy" by fans giving orders to the Suliban villains in Enterprise. He comes from the 28th century. Enterprise never revealed who he was.
After Enterprise ended, Brannon Braga, one of the showrunners, said on Twitter that he planned for an evil future Archer to be Future Guy.
Now rumors are that Discovery is headed to the 28th century for an extended stay. Thus, some think we will see Future Guy and possibly he'll be an older evil Archer.
Quite concerned? They haven't referenced it all in Season 2. I'm pretty sure.
