Basically, inside sources involved with production have said the show will have a time jump. However, the time jump is not to the Calypso future 1,000 years hence, but "only" 500 years in the future - in the 28th century.

Edit: I still don't understand how to square this with Georgiou staying on the show - unless she becomes main cast for the third season, and this is just a one-season diversion. Maybe Section 31 still exists in the 28th century, and for some reason they decide to hire her?

Yeah, it's quite possible the Section 31 show will take place in the 28th century.

If this rumour is true, the events of Calypso will still happen in a future season (if they decide to even tie into that short trek).

Also, the modified probe from the episode Light and Shadows came from the 28th century.

    Prequel my ass, lol.
Sorry, but can't stop laughing. Is the show still considered a prequel if it takes place in 28th century now?

What we know about the 28th century:
    • This is actually the time portal that Discovery's probe went through when it got turned into the robotic squid thing. Though the TL seems to have been reset
    • Future Guy is from this time period, suggesting it will finally be revealed who he is
    • Enterprise also established in Cold Front that a group of Federation anthropologists traveled back in time from this era to witness the construction of the Great Pyramid. Which means the Federation exists

So time travel is a regulated thing in this century. The next century, the 29th, is when the time ships from Voyager operate.

If this is true, I'm almost certain a Pike spinoff will be announced after the season finale.

I hope. I couldn't care less about a Section 31 or Picard show.

I think I would prefer that to "Star Trek Discovery of the 28th and a half century"

It's still a prequel because the show will still be presented from a 23rd century perspective.

    I mean, consider the following:
    • Pike is a breakout fan favorite this season - as is Spock
    • They have already cast Number One and a few other characters who could go along for the ride, like Nhan
    • The season has given the character a great arc - arguably the best to date
    • Anson Mount would be foolish to turn the role down, given he'll be the lead in the show and get a big pay raise
    • They have reportedly built the Enterprise bridge out of higher-quality material than the Discovery bridge
    • The last two episodes will heavily feature Enterprise and its crew
    • They don't have to worry about two 23rd century shows any longer
I'm actually starting to wonder if the announcement of the MU Georgiou Section 31 show was a red herring to hide this.

Nope. And it's just as well. Everything lately seems to be wrapping up the 23rd Century portion of the series. With so many other series they can do that can cover this era (if they want to), there's no need for DSC to take place at this point anymore. Given that Bryan Fuller's original intention was to start in the TOS Era, go to TNG, and then go to some point beyond, they've probably already stuck around in the 23C longer than was intended.
This is what I'm thinking. Then they don't have to constantly butt up against "How does this effect TOS?" or "How does this effect TNG and DS9?" or "Why is this technology so advanced?" anymore.

Well, I get the section 31 thing, but Picard...

Surely, not caring about that is... I dunno, illegal, or something :rommie:

If that rumor is true, it doesn't mean that the series will remain then in the 28th century. I guess they will try to find a way back into the 23rd century and also manage to get back there.

Maybe, but going in the same direction, and with the Abrams moves all but over, Pike and crew would make a damn fine series of movies, and finally be a way for Paramont and CBS to integrate their interests.

And for everyone of you, there's another who would disagree. Such is the nature of Star Trek fans... they all want their Star Trek, but can't agree on what that Star Trek is.

    From the article:
Well, no shit. If they can't do justice to established canon why even bother to try? I get it that maybe that's what Fuller wanted in the first place. Spend a season in each timeline, don't muck up events too much so as not to anger the fans. So if this is finally where they are all going anyway, then why was Fuller fired in the first place?

Even I'm interested in what they do with the Picard Series.
