Why won't Spock shave and put on a starfleet uniform?

Prime Spock currently has a full beard, which is the opposite of his usual completely clean-shaven appearance.

So this must mean that at this point in the chronology, Mirror Universe Spock has big mutton chops but no mustache or any hair on his chin or below the lower lip. In terms of facial hair, that would be the opposite of the trim goatee that he would later be famous for.

As someone married to a bearded bloke, in my experience, the bigger and bushier it is, the less irritating and scratchy it is to kiss him. Stubble or a half grown beard is way worse when you are on the receiving end. Just saying.

So I'm actually digging the full beards on Spock and Tyler.

As for the uniform issue: Maybe Spock just hates the DSC uniforms and refuses to wear one.

(Apparently he would not be able to wear his uniform from the Enterprise. Pike and Nhan both had to change over to the DSC unis, so if Spock were to formally return to active duty, he'd probably have to do so as well.)

I had the same thought! The last scene will be Spock shooting Captain Pike with Delta-particle radiation, taking off his fake beard, revealing a goatee, and he'll falsify ship's records to conceal his identity, making Pike look like a hero. But no amount of beeps or boops from the chair will ever tell anybody the actual truth about what happened.

Our sources are telling us that because THIS Spock has to be licenced under a separate and alternate timeline that is not Kelvin nor Prime timelines, CBS has to comply with...uh..whoever ACTUALLY owns Star Trek...that they will not have a clean shaven Spock to avoid brand confusion. This alternate timeline will be confirmed in Discovery's Season 2 finale. I can confirm that 10 year old me was very, very confused with this act break. The whole time commercials ran I kept trying to think of why Riker would turn bad all of a sudden, and I was still reeling over how he treated poor O'brien.

Peck doesn't quite have the same face shape as Nimoy. The beard helps camouflage.

Actually, the opposite is true. The beard makes his entire face/head look MUCH more round and much less Spock-like. Google images of Peck sans beard. He's actually got a Nimoy-esque square head, but the beard utterly throws it off.

At the the Paley Fest, Peck's jaw looked wider than Nimoy's. This isn't a bad thing, but I can see how a beard could help viewers focus more on Peck's performance than his resemblance to Nimoy.
