You guessed it and a half, most of the associated background (her parents working for section 31) hadn't even really been hinted other than a possible vague connection via Sarek.
Yes we still need to work out why mother Burnham left her present time and hiked it to the future. Why did she do that and what she also knows about Control and the shit that Spock saw in his mind meld. We've seen bits of it but not all the details. So I think keep the thread open for a week or two for at least the next 2 episodes.
American chips, or British chips... they are very different things. If it's the latter, it might be a little too filling combined with a sub.
Next week: Michael: "Mom?! You're the Red Angel?" Mrs. Burnham: "No, I just borrowed the suit. The real Red Angel is Tilly." Dun dun dun <Opening credits> Convoluted craziness <End of episode> Tilly: "I still can't believe I'm going to become the Red Angel." Mrs. Burnham: "Wait, you're Tilly? I'm sorry, I meant the cyborg lady. She's the Red Angel." Dun dun dun Tilly: "...wait. Airiam is dead." Mrs. Burnham: "Then who's flying the ship?" Dun dun dun
It seems people are assuming that every Red Angel we've seen has been the same person, ignoring the convenience of time travel. You'll nee do go brush up on your Janeway cause and effect lectures.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that, if the intent was to have Mama Burnham be the RA all along, it would have been the perfect opportunity to ST09 Michael into the Prime universe. Say she's from late 25 early 26. And the suit is a prototype for what would become Braxton/Daniels's group. There's an accident during the testing phase, and she ends up in the early 22 naughts. She tries to get back through the limited means available but realizes she can't without exposing herself. So she turns to Sarek and confides in him, knowing he would have the connections she needs and that she can trust his pragmatism with ensuring his discretion. But all is for naught. So instead she Doc Brown's herself, falls in love, and gets preggers. Meanwhile, Sarek trusts the wrong person, the knowledge of Mama Burnham's suit gets back to the Klinks, and the shit hits the fan. Feeling guilty and responsible, Sarek takes Michael in. However, Mama didn't die and her limited attempts to fix her suit did allow her to jump a few decades into the future.
Should've been an alt-timeline Amanda Grayson. Someone who lost both her son and foster daughter (and maybe Sarek as well) to the Control AI.
