TOS Enterprise Internals

Personally, I'd put the TFF lounge right at the forward end of the saucer, where it seems to be. Depending on how much you want to cheat what was seen on-screen, you can give the room smaller windows and put it at the leading edge of either of the window clusters, or put the windows behind retractable panels. Likewise, I'd put the dining room in TUC at the rear of the B/C deck structure, in place of the TMP officer's lounge. IIRC, the Strategic Designs blueprints put a formal dining room at the forward end of C deck on the 1701-refit, so maybe they were just switched front-to-back between the two ships.

I suppose the other apparent option is to put the dining room at about the 10 o'clock position on the saucer, directly above the undercut, where the torpedo hit, and go with the ever-popular "These 'windows' are actually screens that show space, for when it'd be too much trouble to walk to a real window to see that there's nothing interesting outside" explanation.

But in the process I have found the third control panel from the first season engine room. It was part of auxillary control.
Yep! It also had a guest spot in the Romulans' cloaking device control room in The Enterprise Incident.
These standardised control panels sure get around, don't they? ;)

The TOS Auxilary Control Room was said to be on Deck 8 in I, Mudd if that helps

Here are the very basic deck plans I worked up for the TMP E. A lot of it will carry over to plans for the TOS E. I might even end up changing these depending on how that one works out.

I've also started my other intended project - detailed drawings of the TMP and TOS ships to go with my Excelsior (Which is waiting on the work here). I didn't get to the Saucer ports, lights, or the markings.

With my cross section work over it.

You've done an excellent job with the turboshafts, and I love your solution for connecting up the Rec Deck! :techman:
The only observation I would make is in regards to the upper level of the widest part of the saucer:

The highlighted turboshafts really restrict foot access on that deck and (to my eyes anyway) don't seem useful enough to justify blocking off so many sections
IMHO, of course ;)

I'm following Kimble's Cutaway. There are only 4 turbolifts/cars on it and that really limits foot traffic on deck 6. But, that also speeds up turbolift access from deck 5 (senior officers) to the entire ship.

For the rec deck I basically extended it inward until I could get the 2 1/2 levels of turbo shaft we see in the film. The set becomes smaller than the space. On the other side of the ship I have put a theater (like in The Concience of the King). These outer spaces will all have to be reconfigured for the TOS. The TMP has windows 8 places while the TOS has windows in 4 places exactly on the quarter. So the theater will move just a bit to port for the TOS. The rec deck is on Deck 8 of the TOS ship. I have a gym and excercise room to add to each ship. Not sure where to put them, bu the TOS versions of all these rooms are a redress of season 1 engineering at full size. I'm going to do the TOS deck before I settle on that. But I'm going to keep them in the same general area.

Great work. My only comment: In the Conscience of the King, the Karidian Players set up their own stage in the Gym. There is no Theater. Check out the walls in both Charlie X and COTK; they are the same walls from the Gym. One less room. :)

I'm assuming 2 rooms from the same set. Not like it's the first time they did that.

And I just watched both of those and in CX there is a wall that would be about where the stage was in CotK. So for me it is two distinct spaces. I think the unusable sloping floor on deck 7 makes a perfect theater location. I'm going to put a second floor in one area for a small running track.

Wouldn't be the first or last place to have a multi-purpose room that gets changed based on the day's schedule. Might be many things over the course of one day, or it could be set aside from something in particular for a month or two at a time.

Before caffeine suggestion  : Perhaps the Players set up in the room on the far side of the grill from Kirk's "mat room," where the two guys are sparring with the sticks. The little half wall with the chairs and table shoved up against it that we see in CX is movable and the Players' stage went there.

In CX, we get to see all 4 walls and 3 corners of the room. The man who laughs at Carlie is sitting next to a port the M5 comptuer will later attach to and they have errected a wall there to make a corner with a stool. So it is right next to the grille. In CotK, the players have their stage setup with seating in the Engine Room set. The grille is to the players right. The location of the wall erected for CX would run right through the middle of the stage. So two different rooms. They did use the same wall panels to cover the engineering control panels, so the sets are essentially the same, but I don't think we are going to start saying that Kirk and Rand shared a cabin just because they used the same set. There is plenty of room in the ship for quite a few rooms that are the size of Season 1 Engineering. Season 2/3 Engineering was never redressed as anything else. Season 1 Engineering also was redressed as the Forward Phase Control room (the room was built on the other side of the screen with the screen and a small room in the background).

I just prefer to think a real starship would have plenty of recreation facilities for those long periods in deep space.

And the profile exterior is almost done. Just some grilles to add.

Your project, so you got to go with what you think is best. The half-wall is visible through the grill in CotK: so much for my early morning idea.

Now, I did just rewatch the gym scene in CX, and there is nothing that says that fourth "wall" is a full wall. Could be just a bump out, one being concealed by the set pieces:

Are those handles on the back wall of the theater for when someone needs to get a little workout while watching a play?

Well, a real ship would have multipurpose spaces. A mess hall that is also used for in-port movies and at-sea religious services on Sunday. A library that is also the chaplain's office and is used as a classroom for training and safety classes. And is also the ship's news CCTV "studio" (Rec fund Bingo night was also broadcast on CCTV from the library.) A helo deck that is also the stage for USO shows and serves as "steel beach" for Surf 'n' Turf Sundays. Space on a real ship is finite and, therefore, maximized for use.
So for me it is not strange at all for the Players to set up in the gym, especially since they obviously brought their own wooden sets with them. Gym probably has a changing room too.
(Not being argumentative; just providing feedback.)

Yep, the same wall as the CX gym. Same half-wall through the grill as the CX gym.

The half wall in CX is some distance from the grille and perpendicular to it. In CotK it is right behind it and parallel to it. Also, from the camera placement, the CX half wall would not be visible. The configuration of that space is different so definitely different rooms.

It looks the same bit of half height wall to me as well, just filmed from a different angle and further away in COK

However, even if they are two separate rooms on the Enterprise...what is the primary function of the theatre? The theatre extends back quite a way, making it larger than the gym in Charlie X by quite some measure. Surely the Enterprise doesn't run dramatic presentations often enough to justify that kind of space, does it? Is there a thriving amateur dramatics society on board, like with the Enterprise-D? The flat bench seating for the audience would tend to indicate otherwise, that this is NOT usually a theatre.
Perhaps it is a cargo bay?
