DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Rumor: Ray Fisher has left his role as Cyborg and the solo Cyborg movie has been canceled.

If that's true, it's too bad. I thought his version of Cyborg was interesting and promising, even if the CGI was a bit uncanny-valley (even the regular part of his face looked digital).

It was never going to happen.
Just like a Flash movie with Ezra Miller. Or Batman movie with Ben Affleck. Or...

It’s like a DC movie version of the marvel snap.

People are slowly fading away

Ezra has till May before his contract expires. WB/DC are probably waiting till then so they can find someone else

It's a shame. I actually liked Justice League for the most part. The plot and action were pretty dumb, but it handled the characters well, and I wanted to see more of its versions of Flash and Cyborg.

She's the Judi Dench of the DC universe. Reboot-proof.

There are lots of movie series that bring back actors while ignoring the continuity of previous installments in the series, like several of the Halloween sequels including the most recent one, or most of the Highlander sequels after the second one.
You guys do bring up a good point. Now what about Joker? After the reception Jared Leto's version got, and now with this being a possible reboot, I'm assuming if he we see Harley with Mr. J again at some point, it will be a different version of the character played by a different actor.
I thought, if you looked past the tattoos and teeth, Leto was actually a pretty good Joker.

Given that we already have the Phoenix solo movie coming out (yes, I know it’s always been intended as a separate continuity anyway), I suspect we’ve seen the last of Jared’s Joker.

I just remembered a DC example that might be fairly close to Margot Robbie's Harley, Matt Ryan's Constantine. He's played the character in two different continuities so far, the Arrowverse and the animated movies.

I found him entirely unremarkable. It was a superficially quirky performance that wasn't very interesting. And it's particularly obnoxious the way Leto uses the pretense of "method acting" as an excuse for being a complete jerk to his co-workers. There's nothing method about his stagey, overly affected performances.

It's pretty common in animation for the same actors to play characters in multiple continuities. Kevin Conroy has played Batman in at least 10 continuities by now (counting the DC Animated Universe, Justice League Action, and various video games and standalone movies). Tara Strong has similarly played Harley and Ivy in multiple things. Marvel Animation has some go-to actors it uses regardless of continuity, like Steve Blum for Wolverine, Fred Tatasciore for the Hulk, and Adrian Pasdar for Iron Man. And a number of actors have crossed from live-action to animation, like Adam West from Batman '66 to the Filmation cartoon to Super Friends.

Yeah, just stopping the kind of behavior we heard about during production of the first movie would probably be a good enough reason not to bring him back all by itself.

I can't speak to his on-set behavior but Jared Leto is totally my favorite Joker. He's the only one that I've ever been truly scared of and yet I love how much fun he's having.

But then, I'm well aware that I seem to like Suicide Squad more than most people. It gives me flashbacks to 2004 and my vigorous defense of the much maligned Daredevil movie.

It could be even worse, they could just call it "Suicide Squad" again. ( Looking at you, Rambo and Ghostbusters. )

Reboots don't count, so Ghostbusters doesn't count. Also, the closing credits and DVD box art list the full title as Ghostbusters: Answer the Call.

Since reboots don't count and because it's been 30 years since Tim Burton's Batman, I'm totally okay with Matt Reeves calling his reboot The Batman. I'd prefer it if they gave it a slightly more creative name but I can settle for The Batman.

Producer Peter Safran as said that The Suicide Squad will be a "total reboot" rather than a sequel or soft reboot. I wonder what this will mean for Birds of Prey, or any other future appearances of Harley Quinn?

Agreed that they're probably using the term "reboot" far more loosely than we would. I remember when people involved with Terminator Salvation were calling that movie a reboot in order to separate it from the lackluster T3 despite the fact that it was clearly in the same continuity, even bringing back Kate Brewster.

Some people even argued ( wrongly ) that it fit into the continuity of the original films. The DVD ended up with bargain bin prices at one point IIRC.

I wonder if they just overproduced the discs. I remember one time that Target had this huge shelf that was nothing but $5 copies of Batman Begins and Gremlins.

Yes. It's weird to me that fandom has latched so tightly onto the notion that "reboot" can refer only to a completely new continuity. I mean, rebooting your computer means restarting the same operating system, not replacing it with a whole new one.

I actually enjoyed BvS, but now that I know this is his attitude, I'm glad he's done with the Worlds of DC movies.

I seem to recall that he made his attitude pretty clear on this point years ago, although he wasn't quite this rude and petty about it. And really, why dredge it up again now? The DCEU has moved on and so have most of us.

He apparently went off on all of this while he was doing a screening of director's cuts of some of his movies.
