Which doesn't make any sense. If Team Arrow's methods are extralegal, it would get any case thrown out of court, regardless of how effective they were. It's contradictory -- the first half of the episode stressed how this could only work if Team Arrow could find a way to work within the law, but then the second half just ignored that and had the police magically excuse their use of their normal vigilante methods.

I wonder how long this arrangement is going to last. Essentially, they are trying to make Oliver and company cops. That's fine and a worthy profession, but that's not their skillset.

If they are cops, they are subject to the same limitations of cops, as opposed to being citizens.

Personally, I hope the show goes back to them being straight up vigilantes. That's the premise of the show after all.

Well, considering the announcement last week there isn't much of a show left, but it was great to see Team Arrow working again. It's amazing how rare that's been this season. Looking at it from the big picture perspective, the characters have been a little directionless this year.

...unless society deteriorates to the point that certain police officers are granted extraordinary powers. I'm sure Judge Dredd *cough* I mean Oliver*cough* can handle the responsibility.

Megacity One...erm...Star City will be in safe hands.

Didn't he built a canary cry unit for the Earth-1 Laurel? If so then he should be able to knock another up for Dinah.

Uhh, yeah, the comment you replied to was replying in turn to my comment that Cisco had built Laurel-1's "Canary Cry" device.

    https://arrow.fandom.com/wiki/Canary_Cry_(object)

It's possible the original device is still in Team Arrow's possession, though that's unclear. Evelyn Sharp was the last person shown to have it.

The Arrowverse TV shows aren't THAT bad on internal continuity, so it'd be great if they brought the original Canary Cry device back (if only to have Dinah refuse it so she can continue to fight crime as her own self, or something) or at least mention it. OTOH, it's been a few years now and even I forgot that the original Laurel's CC was artificial in nature.

I was a bit surprised they didn't at least mention that at some point.
I thought this one was pretty good.
I wasn't to bothered by the stuff with the vigilantes and the cops. If nothing else it was at least nice to actually see everybody suited up and kicking ass together at the end.
I have to admit every time they talk about them now working with the SCPC all I can think of is Batman and Robin in the '66 series.
The big reveal that Connor Hawke was Bronze Tiger's son was a huge surprise.
I'm assuming all the stuff about Felicity helping the SCPD enhance their tech is leading up to the Archer program from the flashforwards.
Dante was OK, not bad, but not one of the best villains.

He was? I totally missed that. I probably heard him call the kid "Connor" but didn't register the significance of the name, since I've only heard it a few times.

I have to say -- why is nobody on the show freaked out about the potential civil-rights nightmare of a surveillance system that can track anyone by their DNA?

He also called him "my little hawk." ;)

I guess in the Legends alternate timeline maybe Connor was adopted younger and named John Jr. because that was the baby Sara timeline after all and the "real" John Jr. didn't exist, and in this future timeline because John Jr. exist he was always just Connor... that could kinda explain away the naming inconsistency.

The present stuff with the team coming back together was fun, but the plot made no sense whatsoever, it was obvious the second the team got deputized that they would be a special SWAT-like part of SCPD, and Oliver already functioned in that role when he was the lone duly deputized vigilante, so the whole "you need to act like regular cops" came out of nowhere and was solved with basically "okay, you can just do your thing after all..." I think the cops/vigilantes working together angle and the issues that would arise from that could have been done so much better, and there's material there for a mini arc at the very least, so this just felt like going through the numbers to get it quickly out of the way, and the numbers they went through barely connected...

I did like the interaction between William and Mia in the future, looking forward to the full future episode.

People have been speculating for a while now that Oliver traded his life for Barry and Kara's in the upcoming Crisis, and only more so now we know next season is the last, but he definitely doesn't act or sound like someone who knows he's gonna die within a year so I'm guessing that he made some different kind of deal with the Monitor...

"Star City 2040" was a great episode!!

I am really curious. Are we seeing a definite future or an alternate future that actually won't happen? If it is a definite future, it's kinda bleak because it means that we already know what is going to happen to Star City. We already know that our heroes will ultimately fail for the next 20 years. But maybe the show is just presenting us with a future that will never happen just to help us appreciate more what our heroes are saving the city from this season? Or would the show involve time travel shenanigans to "undo" this future?

^I think we've been told in producer interviews that this is meant to be the future, but whether that's really the case or just hype remains to be seen. Anyway, the time-travel antics on The Flash and Legends make the future an intrinsically mutable entity.

Thanks. I guess my other thought is that our heroes usually save the world on these types of shows. So I am kinda expecting that the future we saw won't actually happen. But maybe the flash forwards are meant to show us that while our heroes don't save the world from every threat, nevertheless the next generation will continue the good fight.

So far, we are seeing a pretty bad future overall.

If this is THE future, what's really the point of this story other than to say what they do in the present means little. Other than Oliver, who we don't know, everyone important could be alive. Diggle's fate is an interesting question.

I guess the point is that Team Arrow can save the day over and over again but there will always be another villain right around the next corner but the next generation will still continue the good fight. Evil persists but Good will always fight back. Yeah, it's a bit bleak. It's not your typical comic book ending where the hero saves the world and everyone lives happily ever after forever.

And let's not forget that this episode did have one ray of hope that 20 years from now, the next gen of Team Arrow will save Star City.

No Oliver post birth. Nyssa teaching all the fighting skills. Bodes well for Ollie/Monitor deal pay up in the next crossover

What I'm seeing is that nothing Oliver does makes a difference, everything actually gets worse, and he leaves Star City in worse shape then he founded, and is hated.

True. I see that. We got quite the dystopian view of Star City in this episode with the rich elite living behind walls and the rest of Star City living in slums with cage fights and criminals.

But that is why there is a part of me that secretly hopes the future is changed. It would be depressing to end the show with Ollie dying and leaving the city in worse shape. Basically, his entire life of fighting to save the city was for nothing? I hope not.
