Well, I gotta admit: I’m liking Peck’s Spock - having initially been skeptical that his character should appear in Discovery. In fact - I’m keen to see more of Peck’s Spock, either further in the series or as part of a Pike / Enterprise spin-off (if such a show were to eventuate).
Yeah, I agree. Although he's developing his own take on the character, he's channeling Nimory much more than Quinto did. He has the emotional yet logical disdain for things that older Spock (post TMP) later redeveloped as he shed his devotion to logic.
So far, Peck's Spock has been everything I wanted. Which may not be what everyone else wants. So much angst, get that boy a Kylo Ren helmet. His barbs with Michael (and his utter disdain for father-of-the-millennium Sarek) were amazing.
Peck's Spock doesn't have the rebellious sass that Quinto's has. His is more of a simmering anger. "You giving me attitude, Spock?" "I am expressing multiple attitudes simultaneously sir. To which are you referring?" "Out."
I thought Peck did a pretty good job as Spock on the last episode. But it looks like Spock is going to mature very quickly between DSC and TOS. Peck never plays him as truly dispassionate. There's always this underlying level of snark underneath how he behaves. Nimoy did that too, just not constantly.
The character has about a decade to evolve. And in Where No Man..., his snark is of a kind comparable, albeit somewhat tempered, to what Peck has performed thus far.
