Filmed yes, but the cuts might have been done later. The cut for the final episode was just finished some days ago. Poor Tom had to work all through the night.

So if there was a choice to keep the humor scene or the serious one, somehow the humor won.

    Just watched it.
Did any other ship of Orville’s type/Exploratory-A participate in the battle?

I wonder if the Union has any “major” races other than Humans. Moclans may count but they’re pretty home-bound.

Wonder if there’s any lasting impact from losing that many ships in a battle.

We really need an Orville Starships Collection. :bolian:
It’s season two and we got no model at all yet. :wah:

The dinosaur scene was nice, but it's just more of the superficial ruminating that marked modern Star Trek. I doubt that it was "either Gordon or the dinosaur," but if it was, I prefer Gordon.

Blimey! That was astonishing! So glad they didn't hit the reset button! Never thought this show was capable of this! Extra portion of humble pie for me!

Did we get an eyeroll at the very end of that scene from Kelly?! Realizing why she's better off divorced perhaps?

Very good episode. This two-parter is definitely the best of the Orville thus far. It's been the first time it felt like they were in genuine peril.

Of course, they were back to status quo by the end:lol:

Apologies if this has been noted already, but a clip from the battle scene has been posted to the show's official YouTube channel:

Going forward, one wonders how many of the other non-Union fleets shown in the series thus far may be drawn into the fray going forward - and, of those, how many would choose to go it alone rather than approach the Union (and/or the Krill) for help against the Kaylon armada.

    Crosspost from Discovery board.

As I said before, it's 'Deep Space 9' vs 'Babylon-5' all over again. If you are following both shows, you can understand what I mean.

Rise of the Machines, who wants to exterminate all sentient life in the Galaxy - Control/Kaylon.

One of the crew, who happens to be robot, betrays his comrades, but in the last moment have a change of heart and ready to sacrifice himself - Ariam/Isaac.

One of the crew walks out of the airlock.

All in the same episode. Coincidence? Maybe.

Writing, shooting and editing an episode takes longer than two weeks?. The "The other show did that two weeks ago" argument was stupid then and is stupid now.

No one here says that someone stole someone else’s plot and adapted it in a matter of weeks. But given that we have people working on both series at the same time (including Commander Riker himself), I can easily imagine that there was an intentional or random exchange of ideas many months ago. Not necessarily something shady. Maybe even a friendly competition:

"By the way, Jonathan, we are going to make an episode about the AI uprising. With a bonus: an astronaut went on a space walk without wearing a space suit".

"Ten bucks says my story with the same premise will be better".

    "Make it 20".

    "Hold my beer".

Considring this Orville episode was basically TNG's "Best of Both Worlds" but with Androids... ;)

    Yeah - that's complete bullshit.

Well, regarding DS9 v. Babylon5 i remember reading about exactly those allegations being made in fan circles, so reminding us all, how unrealistic they basically are, seems a god idea.
