After seeing Pike in action, I would love a pre-TOS Enterprise show

oh, I did. I have the Encyclopedia, Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise and the Technical Manual. I had a flag of the Starship Intrepid's logo (homemade) and my own redshirt, which I had to switch the insignia on as it had the command emblem on it at first.

I know way more about Trek than I do about math.

 

Well I definitely know more about trek then I do about math. While I never got the books I did however get some models ships and getting every Star Trek show on DVD, which surprise my mother who is a Trekkie to but not nearly to the extent of me

 

My dad is a Trekkie as well but not to the same extent as me. Plus, there is now the Internet where you can find some of the books

 

That’s why I join this site to talk with fellow Trekkie who aren’t what I would call casual Trekkies

I'd definitely welcome a Pike series judging by what they've done with him, Number One and so on in Discovery. If we do see the NCC 1701 bridge as well then key sets for such a series have been made. I don't think it'll happen though.

 

I'd give a pre-TOS series set aboard the Enterprise with Pike and Spock a look. I've no interest in the other current or announced Trek TV projects.

 

I have to look in on the Picard series. Like stopping to gawk at a train wreck.

Well, the folks who were taught the Berman era is the epitome of Star Trek are starting to realize that nothing of what's coming over the next few years will be centered around a group of people sitting around a boardroom table discussing the most moral thing to do. They can't be too happy about that.

 

And while i don’t think berman era trek is the greatest Although I see nothing wrong with sitting around a Boardroom deciding what the most thing is to do. Because it’s better than stunning when your captain your captain disagrees with you.

 

As a rare moment, sure. As a constant (or nearly so) occurrence? Not so much.

 

Where can I watch the version of Discovery you do? Where it appears the captain gets stunned by his disagreeable subordinates as often as we had scenes of boardroom meeting's on Picard's Enterprise?

 

I never said to do it every episode but I wouldn’t say to only do it rarely.

 

I didn’t say it happens all the time but I don’t remember but picard getting stuned after disagreeing with the crew. ( I could be wrong because I haven’t absolutely every) I think discovery has a nice balance of it don’t you think I mean we do see them in the conference table sometimes. Just be clear at first I didn’t like discovery but now I’ve warmed up to it. I think what we have seen of the second season did it for me. It’s just that isn’t Star Trek supposed to represent being civil and not act impulsively and I believe sitting around the table it’s a little more civil then other methods we have seen throughout trek. I will admit it that Berman era trek has its problems (pajama like uniforms and storylines that seem the same) but I’m getting a tad tired of people seemingly always hating on it. I like the century where for starfleet and the federation, if you want to communicate with somebody you tap your com badge set of having to pull out a communicator and the fact that you most the time have personal replicators in your room so if you get up in the middle of the night you can get yourself a midnight snack instead of having to to go to the mess hall. And don’t forget holodecks. And the Klingons are your allies. well most of the time. then again my favorite part of 24th century trek is the last 4 seasons of DS9 and those seasons were not under the direction of Rick Berman I believe.
So remember don’t group us all to the same group. While some like berman era trek and don’t like discovery. you can still think that Berman trek Is pretty good and still like discovery. I do, and I’m sure others do as well.

 

What I've been proposing for a while is continue the Star Trek series. Have fifteen seasons, five for April, ten for Pike. Then have season 16 include Where No Man Has Gone Before. Then seasons 17, 18, and 19, be Seasons 1, 2 and 3, of what we have now. Then add a final season 20 on the end.

But I don't trust any of the current show runners to pull this off. The whole series would have to match the existing episodes in visual and writing styles. While you'd have a bit more freedom with the April seasons you'd need to use cgi and voice actors for the Pike and Kirk seasons. Also I don't think the technology is quite there yet. It's close though.

 

You know that’s actually a very good idea. I like matching the existing episodes and visual and writing styles. You’re right they probably won’t be able to pull that off. Although who knows maybe somebody will finally see the genius of that. It’s unlikely but nobody says we can’t dream. On the technology I don’t know it’s there yet either but who knows we maybe get lucky and we can find some people who look close enough.

 

Just give Deep Fake time.

But, you are right that the show runners could not pull it off, and not just the current ones. It would take some extreme detail work and attention to detail that very few production teams would be willing to put in. Maybe they can hire James Cawley, or someone like that and it might work...might.

The other part is that society has moved forward in time so capturing some of the writing nuance is going to be even more difficult.
