I think nanites would work better than transporters for medical procedures.

But, I also think that worm holes would work better than transporters for travel....at least in science-fiction.

I think it is common misconception that transporters are like replicators. I don't think they are. Outside some freak accidents, they don't duplicate matter. (And perhaps in those cases there is some parallel universe where instead of being duplicated the person just completely vanished.)

Worm holes are very good for moving compost around, it's not what you'd call an exact science though and wouldn't be the preferred choice for quickly getting someone out of trouble. Does, however, keep my veg patch in good order so mustn't grumble.

Introducing nanites to a human body sounds good though. Couldn't go wrong in fact :)

I think they work however the plot needs them to work.

Not only that, but the computer can keep track of DNA and rebuild the pattern based upon that DNA record. How is aging and death still a thing? O_o

Oooohhh, functional immortality to add to my list of things that seem to be quietly forgotten in Trek, along with transporter toilets and telekinesis potions.

    Good call!

Because the writers didn’t think of it. It was a plot device to move people as cheaply as possible production wise.

I was referring to a specific episode where Pulaski prematurely ages due to exposure to disease. Data and Riker retrieve a sample of her DNA from her hair brush to de-age her, for lack of a better term.

This is a little old now, but it's interesting that it was done long before anyone knew where Discovery was going with Season 2. And, damn....he's almost got it as if Vina is in the beep chair, because his depiction of Hillary looks a lot like Vina after the wreck.

Edit: I am taking the image down voluntarily, without anyone having raised an objection, because the point was made and it's just not needed here. For anyone interested, it is the Garrison cartoon with Trump and Hillary and the beep chair from 'The Menagerie'.

Yeah, it's definitely painful to look at....just interesting that he chose the beep chair as part of the focus, not knowing that Pike would be along for Season 2 of DSC.

If you think of Trump as Captain Ronald Tracy at the end of his career, it's a much better comparison.

It's very unfortunate that Garrison is even aware of Star Trek, because he continually uses it in nasty ways. He has another cartoon, of Kirk and Sulu, that is very derogatory toward George Takei and the LGBTQ community. It's out there on the net, but I'm not going to post it here because it's so utterly offensive.
